We should all go back to the rigid gas permeable ( basically like a hard lens). I have been wearing them for 30 years ( well, not the same pair, of course), and have NEVER had an eye infection.
You should never shower or swim with any kind of lens in your eye, and eye doctor once told me this is the most common source of infections, that and not washing your hands before touching the lens.

I had lasik surgery on both of my eyes about 6 years ago. Best thing I have ever done for myself. No more contacts or glasses, and my vision is still 20-20.After dealing with glasses and contacts for most of my life it is such feeling of freedom to not have the hassel.

So they are issuing a recall based on the fact that 20 people out of about 50 claimed that at some point they used this solution? If the solution was actually the source of the contaminant hundreds of thousands would have this infection b/c millions use the solution. The people who received the infection were probably doing something incorrectly. This is absurd. If you received an infection, it probably is NOT smart to throw away your only hard evidence. How do you expect to be able to prove your case w/o the only physical evidence?

When they found this out last year they should have made it public knowledge . I feel we should all be compensated in some small monetary way just in case we have this fungus and not aware of it or it occurs some time in the near future .

I would like to know how this presents itself when infected by this "parasite". What are the symptons? Do you have to wait until you are going blind before a doctor can detect the damage caused b this solution? I have been plagued by infections through the years always using Complete!

hey Rosa Colbert you will be aware when you have the fungal infection i had gotten it about 2 yrs ago and basically it feels like someone threw acid in your eyes and it looks like it also and the pain is so bad they had to give me painkillers, antibiotics and these eye drops that numbed my eyes you will know if you have the infection/fungus.

I think the problem is that this solution says that it will clean your contact lens and no rubbing is needed. I know for a fact that none of the contact lens cleaners really clean your lens. Since the lenses are never really cleaned with these types of solutions,
it leads to eye infections. The solution is not strong enough to really clean contact lenses and this false sense of security has led to terrible eye infection. I usually use a thick cleaner called "pliagel" to clean my lenses and then I rinse with the so called "no rubbing" solutions. When your lenses are not really clean because protein builds up on the lenses you will definitely get an eye infection or irritation. Check out the possibility of this. You must remember that most people have "allergies" and protein definitely builds on the contact lens.

I'm amazed that there hasn't been more published on all of this. This little article is only the beginning of the story, like for example, what in the world is acanthamoeba, and what are the symptoms?

This is really crazy! In the past three months, I have come down with what I believed to be conjunctivitis twice. never in my chldhood had i ever gotten this. I thought maybe it had somethung to do with the fact that I have been working at an industrial site and questioned the health condition....thought of everything before i read this article. This is the solution I had been using...

We have 3 people in our office including myself who all use this solution and have all been complaining for the past couple of weeks of eye problems. We have all purchased solution recently. We associated the problems to allergies but are now re-thinking this diagnosis.

Your doctor should explain to you that no rub does not mean that you can just drop your contact lenses in and it will clean them. There are specific directions inside the box that someone has to follow for no rub. I always rub my lenses and I have never had a problem.

My brother has that terrible acanthamoeba keratitis and he just had his second cornea transplant. They could only diagnose it after they biopsied the old cornea. So now they're giving him the drops and he's in agony. Some days are good, on others it's real bad. The drops don't appear to be killing the parasite. Does anybody know of any eye doctors who specialize in killing the tough parasites successfully? I don't want him to lose his eye.

If your son had suffered from a disease as terrible and life disrupting such as an acanthamoeba you would know that its not about the money its about making the contact solution idustry take responsibility for ruining the lives of their consumers
