Ooh, I want! The lower price puts it within reach. It probably won't ever replace the comfort of turning paper pages, but what a convenience!

Barnes and Noble is really late coming to this party and are playing catch-up. Netflix did it to Blockbuster, now Amazon is doing it to Barnes and Noble. These big companies better get smarter, or more and more of them are going to fall behind and die. Ten years ago, who would have thought Blockbuster would be dying a slow death? B&N could very well be the next Blockbuster.

Barnes & Noble may not sell as many different types of items as Amazon, but they do retain and draw a solid customer base because of their product focus and superior customer service. It would be a shame to see them become another Amazon. I've seen several remarks from Kindle users that Amazon has deleted purchased books without permission.

I hope that Barnes & Noble survives as well. They have very nice stores and service. I just think they should have jumped on this electronic bandwagon a little earlier. The numbers of people with these readers is relatively small, but is growing quickly. With the iPad now in the mix, I definitely think the wave is growing in the electronic reader market.

Wouldn't it be interesting to read an interview with the exec(s) at Blockbuster that must have said, "Who would want their videos mailed to them? Netflix, Shmetflix."

I just bought an Ipad. For the money I think it's a better value. Internet access, E-reader, Apps, larger screen..

I tried out a Nook and that thing is so tiny. Not worth it IMO.

Amazon just dropped the price of the Kindle 2 to $189.00. I love my Kindle... the screen is easy to read in daylight and the wireless internet connection has allowed me to check my email and FB account in Europe without having to pay high hotel internet connection fees. For those two reasons alone I would choose a Kindle over a Nook.

Now there's a great use for the iPad! It looks like it's a comfortable size to read from, and it would be nice to have the other conveniences that an e-reader wouldn't offer.

Blockbuster should definitely have sat up and paid attention to earlier suggestions. Even their good customer service didn't save them from losing business, since they specialize in the exact same item as Netflix.

I bought one a few weeks ago and paid more (259) and got the free 50 dollar gift card. call the 1800 number with your reciept info and you will get a 10 dollar credit card refund, which evens out the price. They tried to get me to accept a 10 dollar gift card, but I said I didn't want it. They tried to tell me that b/c I hadn't used the gift card within 14 days of purchase that would not do anything. I threatened to return it and by and Kindle and they gave me the money.

I would actually add that NO ONE SHOULD PURCHASE A NOOK. A few weeks prior they pulled the same thing, by adding the 50 dollar gift card to the 259 price. If you do buy it, make sure to get a GIFT RECIEPT which extends the return policy to 30 days.

As far as I'm concerned companies that pull this stuff (i.e. apple as well) should be boycotted until they make restitution.

Prices fluctuate ALL THE TIME for just about every product. There is nothing wrong with adjusting to market conditions. We have a free market. You were clearly willing to pay $259.00 when you made your purchase. At the time, it was worth that much to you. No one scammed you. You were lucky they gave you anything at all.
