Went in to work out at Ballys like I usually do on Mondays. Stopped at the door to find out Ballys had been taken over by La Fitness. They would not honor my Ballys membership which was paid annually on Oct.28 2011, 2 months ago. I called American Express which is how I made the payment. They verifyed my payment. La Fitness said it was not in their system and I would have to pay their fees. I called Ballys and got a "we are unavaiable at this time" recording. I have belonged to this gym for over 20 years. It was called Holiday Spa when I started, then they sold to Ballys, the transition was effortless and great. I had a lifetime membership. Which I paid annually. The new La fitness staff was rude and cold and offered no understanding or solution. I am going to continue to try to contact Ballys. This is just wrong.

I spoke to someone at both Bally's and LA Fitness and was advised that LIFETIME members did not get transferred during this acquisition. I was told by customer service from Bally's that LIFETIME members stay with BTF. You would just go to another BTF - the next closest one that is still Bally's, if there is one. That is pretty much what happend to me. I have a BTF Lifetime membership, but I have no dues. Now I have to go to the next closest Bally's. My husband in the other hand has a Bally's Premium membership, but his was not a lifetime membership, so his account did get transferred. He set up the autopay to be billed his yearly dues, and now he was told that he can use the nearest LA Fitness until Jan 1st. After that he can only any old Ballys now La Fitness, which is an hour away. We probably will stop payment, since we can't go and remove the autopay. If your membership is not being honnored, then you might want to look into a class action suit. Good Luck.

just an update..regardless as to what you were told as of yesterday 12/9/11 LA fitness decided to honor the lifetime memberships. you need to go in and sort it out. you are all in the system somewhere...even though it may be hard to find. again the lifetime memberships WERE transferred so dont let the staff tell you otherwise.

They have not "just" decided to honor some memberships and not others. This is a well organized organized company yet their are alot of people involved so their will be some miss imformed employees trying to do their best to help alot of people involved. Need I remind all of you who are being impatient that patients with the employees doing their best at the club level should be thought of. After all life is too short. Merry Christmas to all!

I just left the Ballys in NYC and could not believe how filthy it was. And it is located in mid-town Manhattan.

The overworked, underpaid staff really do hand me a laugh. Can only imagine just what the rest of the members across the country are going thru. But then, I don't think I want to imagine what they are going thru.

I have been a member since the days it was called Jack Lalanne and knew from what happened when Holiday took over to never sign up for Lifetime nothing, anywhere. The end for Ballys was obvious when in less than two years after it listed on the NYSE it was in the penny stock range and finally delisted.

People, we are all going to end up back at the YMCA before it is all over. And to tell you the truth, looking at just what the YMCA DOES offer, I am beginning to think that I missed a bargain. The only reason I am hanging on to my Ballys membership is because my dues are only $250 a year.

Were it not for that I would join the YMCA in a hearbeat.

come on!!! If you have been going to blockbuster to rent movies! Blockbuster cut hours of operation, stores were not kept up, and I still rented movies! YES there was other choices as smaller video stores, netflix, buy newer releases on my direct tv! Most blockbusters were bought out by hollywood video or B"s competors! Now did I take my Blockbuster card in and said I'm a member "NO" I rejoined! I paid for what I used. Quit complaining, join somewhere and workout! Don't NAG the staff! The staff has NO buy-in to keep your retention! They get paid on commision of new membership sales! So complaining to staff really they don't care! And by the way the club manager has 50 other things to worry about & not your 20 yearold renewal that is @ 100$ a year! I am a former employee @ Ballys and worked for over 25 years in member sales/management. When Ballys went to month to month pay as you go. People really complained about there rernewal! Staff does not get paid on renewals. So join La Fitness and work out! La Fitness purchased 171 clubs from Ballys & they just purchased Lifestyle fitness out! So just go pay your 20-45$ a month and WORKOUT!!!!
