I have no secrets as to my real name. I don't hide things from people.

When I joined this club there were 10-12 clubs within 20 miles. A year ago there were 2. Now, after a suspicious fire, there is 1 within about a hundred miles. That's right one!!

I'm told by people at the remaining club that the one with the fire is to open in July.(Oh guess what it's now August.)I have never seen anyone working on that club when driving by at various times during the week. It's just locked up tightly. My biggest issue is really that no one will give me true current or even just blunt information. If it's not going to open up just end the BS now and tell me the truth. Well, first, let me say that I am a masnager with Bally Total Fitness and understand the frustration everyone of you feel. This company gets more complaints due to improper business practices than all other health clubs COMBINED. They are also dealing with a class action suit in Pennsylvania and another lawsuit in Chicago over the hiring of it's current CEO. They also are dealing with charges from the SEC regarding improper (illegal) accounting practices dating back to 2003. This is company uses deceptive business practices on a regular basis and will have little to no concern for you once you become a member. And yes, you should be careful what you sign, but Bally shows little or no regard for the policies they put in place to protect you. Join another health club.
Ur not a BTF manager, otherwise ur an ignorant 1. Talking down about the company U work for will only result in an un-stable job/work environment. Ultimately, the membership agreements R there 2 protect the members and company. However, now BTF offers monthly memberships and will moreso allow existing members w/ contracts to get out of them. Give it a try.

My boyfriend signed us up for what we thought was a "no commitment" membership with 1 free guest pass for 3 months last Christmas. It was one of the worst mistakes he could have made. If you actually read all the ever so tiny fine print the contract is for LIFE. Do a google search on "bally's scam" and you will find thousands of hits. They use a lot of "bait and switch tactics". They never let most people out of the scam. There are reports of deceased folks being charged a monthly bill. The only way they claim you can cancel a membership is via their customer service line in California. This is a joke and nothing gets resolved. Luckily we got the attorney general and better business bureau involved and then things finally seemed to shift after several months of work, letters sent by certified mail and phone calls. It appears that we were finally able to cancel our memberships. We changed the credit card # that we gave them and reported them to the credit card company as well. Here is a link to the template we used for our "30 day Demand letter". http://www.mass.gov/...
Stay away from Bally gym and spread the word!!

One thing I always found funny about Bally’s is there doesn’t seem to be two people in the entire gym paying the same price. I got my membership back in 1994 and it was supposed to be $4 a month for life. Well, life was three years long.. after that they tack on 10% a year. At this point I am still paying under $250 a year, but I did shell out for the lifetime membership. But enough about that..change of subject.. is it me or do they only hire retarded people to man their phone lines?
Last year it took three phone calls to finally get them to send me proof of paying my bill so I could get a refund from work. This year was just as fun. First try… they sent me a report of every time I swiped my card for the entire year! Second try.. well, the second attempt got me nothing. Third try.. get this.. they sent me paperwork so I could transfer my account to another person! How the f did they interpret my asking for a receipt of payment into requesting all the forms to transfer my account? Is there any way they could hire dumber folks? I would like to call and complain, but it is easier to just call them a bunch of morons on a forum like this.:)

To avoid justice department scrutiny and screw more customers over, Ballys "sold" gyms to LA Fitness.
Here is the lie Ballys is spreading right now:
"Lock in your rate right now." Your bally membership will carry over into your LA Fitness membership.
There is no merger, LA Fitness will honor no Bally member after Dec 31.
Here is the lA Fitness BS company line you will hear in January:
No, we never gave you a membership here. We let you use this gym as a courtesy. You can use any ballys nationwide and unfortunately, there are none except in California, Washington and colorado because we bought everything else.
For example, if you pay $99/year now, they'll make it $400 and waive the downpayment for your inconvenience and a bs smile.
Basically, they've bipassed the anti-trust process to ding the consumer.

I joined TMA at Ballys in Lansdowne Maryland in August of 2011. This same month they had their big Grand opening Gala.Hype,Hype, Hype. It is now December 2001 and Ballys has sold out to LA Fitness who declined to continue the TMA classes. The last TMA class was held sometime before Thanksgiving. On December 5th Ballys charged my credit card for......you guessed it...TMA. Whaaaaat?? Yes these crooks charged me for a program which did't exsist anymore. Then I got the supreame run around when I requested my money back. They were supposed to "pro-rate the money I had already spent as well. When asked how much I would be getting and when. They said they couldnt tell me. What crooks!!! They sure had no problem taking my money every friday!

I learned years ago to never give any company access to my bank checking account. Most of the complaints here seem to be a result of Bally having access to your checking account and not being ethical. DO NOT GIVE ACCESS TO ANY COMPANY. I had to close my account and reopen a new account number and when someone says you have to let us charge your account I say "F.U.", never gonna happen again. BTW I am 60 and was a VP at a bank.
