When I was 16 I cosigned a contract with my brother (who the hell lets a 16yo sign a contract?) to join the gym. I think I only went a handful of times before I moved to TX, and shortly thereafter my brother was sent to Bagdad. We canceled the membership and since I was 60 miles away from one, and he was considerably more miles away from one, we thought everything was in order.
Three years later he got a bill for $645 that was due only 4 days from when he received it. He called me and told me to call their 800 number and see what I needed to do. So, I called and they told me they needed a bank statement as proof of address change (which I had sent 3 years prior) and $50 cancelation fee. I did that the day after since I called around midnight.

That taken care of, my brother then called to see if everything was in order and they said he still owed $48. That was a lot more acceptable than the $600.
BUT THEN they called him later and said that he now owed $700.

This is a bully of an organazation that will do everything short of raping your mom to get your money and will never EVER make anything clear to you what you need to do in order to get out of their clasp.
Stay away from them. If you want to work out, it'll be cheaper to just buy your own equiptment.

SUMMARY
==========
** Bally Fitness PURPOSELY incorrectly submits automated monthly credit card charges for a pool of customers to get their customers on the phone.
** They do this by submitting the credit card charge without the proper information to cause a soft decline.
** They then leave an automated message from headquarters on your phone asking you to call them back to handle a billing issue.
** Once on the phone, they then proceed to offer a 25% discount if customer pays out the remainder of the contract while trying to resolve the automated
billing issue.
** Bally Total Fitness filed for bankruptcy in 2007 and they are resorting to shady marketing techniques to generate revenue in 2008.

I agree with you. I signed in Jan. 2008 for a month to month (no contract) and I signed to pay every month for $27.00. I payed in the club for the month of Feb. and Mar. and I was trying to use my debit card and apparently my account was overdrawen so I called my bank and those m***er f***ers have been charging my card! I was so pissed I wanted to cancel my account. I misplaced my contract so I requested a copy because the raised my monthly to $34.10 without notifying me and they also said I signed a 3 year contract. I will sue them if they don't give me my money back. So don't sign anything with this company it's cheap then most gyms but look what happens they steal your money. This was in SOUTH BAY.

BALLY"S TOTAL FITNESS USES TRICKS TO GET YOU IN A CONTRACT. I made the HUGEEEEE mistake of signing it. I signed one for 36 months, later they had this "Great deal" I could add anyone for the Low price of 19 dollars. I decided to add my friend who I did not think was too reliable to pay. So I specifically said MONTH TO MONTH for him. They said yes MONTH to MONTH. So know my unreliable friend is not paying his share of the bill. I said no ploblem his only on there MONTH TO MONTH. It turns out that the [email protected] are now telling me that his on there for 36 months too. I am so angry. I asked to speak with the Manager and he said no his on their for 36 months basters they use good trickery KEEP AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!

if you where under age when you opened the account no matter how many people are on it you need to send a copy of your birth certificate and adv them at time of sale you where legally under age a contract by a 16 is not valid and all money you paid should be refunded to you even if they closed or canceled it allready you can still do this

I got a membership in michigan for $399 for 2yrs. plus the 3rd yr free.I thought it was a good deal until i started realizing most of the people working here are either gay or poor bastards who can't find a real job.Being it is what it is you can imagine most of the member's in here are gay or going no where in life. The commercial's you see on t.v are a totally different contrast of what's going on don't let it fool you.Peaceout

I feel so f*cked up over bally's. At nights i cant even sleep thinking that i cosigned for my "friend" when he was 17 (legally underage). He never payed a single bill. Now I'm getting his bills now worth over $1000.

bally info, your posts are bullshit just trying to throw people off because you work for bally's. well f you. bally's f-ed me over too. said i could sign up for the 60 day promise in which i could cancel with one personal trainer visit and 16 other times visiting the club. i did the above requirements and i was not satisfied with the club results because it was all under construction and crammed. i planned to cancel anyway after summer now that i am going back to school. those bullshtters told me the 60 days started and ended at a certain time and when i tried to cancel i couldn't because those tricky bs-ers lied to me and continued to deny ever saying that. they said i was 5 days late from the given 10 day cancellation period. bs. fckers jacked me into a 36 month contract for around $700 when i only agreed with the membership associate that i was interested in two. he insisted on this instead of a "much more expensive" month to month plan and i trusted this a-hole. his name is TJ Lee from Rosemead, CA Bally's. The manager, Jeff, is also an a-hole that has no idea how to talk to customers and just walks out in the middle of an argument. SCAM SCAM SCAM. WARNING. JOIN ANOTHER CLUB.

I was a member at Bally several years ago when I lived in Florida. I had let my membership expire. I received a call from Ballys telling me that they had a special going on. I could get 3 yrs (36 monts) for 599.00 dollars, and If I signed up today they would activate a coupon which would allow me to get an additional year for 599.00. Wow 4 yrs for $599.00.. This is a great deal The manager told me that he needed my credit card information now to get started and all I had to do was come in, sign the slip for the credit card and sign the membership paperwork.

When I arrived at Ballys Total Fitness I found that they had already billed my American express card without me ever signing the slip. Also, the asshole had signed me up for a 36 month contract instead of a 48 month contract that he had promised over the telephone.

Once I saw that they had suckered me, i contacted American Express to reverse the charges. I then contacted Ballys and told those assholes that i was not going to sign anything with them because they are dishonest. I also told them that they had no right to bill my credit card when i had never signed a contract, nor agreed to a 36 month contract. To this date, they have not return to money.

I have not signed a contract with Ballys and they billed my credit card erroneously. I'm looking to find others who have been wrong by Ballys so that we can go in on a class action suit against the bastards.

I agree with you all. They are cheating people.I talked almost 1hour with manager, she exlpained how wonderfull is everything and then gave me sign papers. Though we were taking about 2 month trial it appeared that she gave me sign 3years contract. Now, when I talled that water in the pool is dirty and I have eye infection they dont let me quit saying that I have 3 years commitment. Did anybody ever took them on court? How to deal with those people?

Bally total fitness is a total shame to the fitness clubs. They are not only liers and cheaters to consumers, millions of people had filed consumer complaints against their business practice. They also lie to their stock holders,
the Securities and Exchange Commission filed financial fraud charges against Bally Total Fitness Holding Corporation on Feb 28 2008 for fraudulent accounting activities from 1997 to 2003.

Well, first, let me say that I am a masnager with Bally Total Fitness and understand the frustration everyone of you feel. This company gets more complaints due to improper business practices than all other health clubs COMBINED. They are also dealing with a class action suit in Pennsylvania and another lawsuit in Chicago over the hiring of it's current CEO. They also are dealing with charges from the SEC regarding improper (illegal) accounting practices dating back to 2003. This is company uses deceptive business practices on a regular basis and will have little to no concern for you once you become a member. And yes, you should be careful what you sign, but Bally shows little or no regard for the policies they put in place to protect you. Join another health club.
