When you implimint govt programs such as FMLA.AAM had a large amount of abuses. The absenteeism is thru the roof and can't be controleed by the corporation. They did studies, went to the govt, even published it on the web.The point is;It is just getting too expensive to do business in the USA,due to govt regulations.AAM has simply given up on US operations to be competitive.

Dauch did care when he first bought the company. You should have seen the area around the Detroit Plant when he bought it.He bought up the entire area and created a park like atmosphere out of the ghetto. He even put his headquarters there. Some where between 94 and 2004 he has soured on US operations. You should see all the vacant land around the Detroit plant.I think at one time he planned to expand.I believe if the union people would have cooperated more, get their people to come to work, agree to a more reasonable wage, generally work with managment on problems,This place could have been huge succes

Im at the Detroit plant, offer a buyout and im gone. I'm worth more not less.
I do wonder what the turn over rate will be with 14.00 an hour workers .

It will be low.$14/hr with benefits and a roof over the workers head and a set schedule will attract hordes of people....hordes.

I watched this happen at Delphi Thermal in Lockport, NY. Everyone said no one would work for $14/hr and guess what? 1000's showed up to apply for the jobs and the place isn't hampered by turnover. All the jobs are standardized and unskilled so they can just churn the people.

sorry to piss on your fire, truckin, but they did this at goodyear/dunlop also. the quality of worker that comes through the door is piss poor. we have more getting fired or quiting than most have seen in awhile.it is very obvious that the test standards were lowered to help these people get in the door.

As I said in my post, they would churn the people. If they can get their production processes and work instructions standardized to take the skill out of the job then they can just screw in new lightbulbs when the current one burns out (analogy to workers). Goodyear/Dunlop may have poor quality people coming in the door but what is the internal and customer quality levels of those motorcycle tires you are making?

we are the top supplier for all harley's coming off the production line and the top supplier for race bikes, this has got to mean something, if they were crap then it's a safety issue and then people/riders get killed. the only reason michelin was able to get in was because we were on strike and couldn't maintain supply... but this is a DELPHI forum, sorry

I figured that customer quality levels are high for the Dunlop product. I only purchase Dunlops for my bikes (D208's and D220's).

They are going to do to you what had been done to us ! They all say that hey can't compete because of wages. What BULLSHIT !! I have been an auto worker for almost 30 years and I am proud of it ! Right now ,what is happening is what you could say is the year that the unions disappeared . The government has earned most of the blame for that ! If you have a union that is willing to fight for you ,unlike ours, you might be able to force their hand! American Axle has been there, we had a new buyer come in and make a mess of everything. The union went along with them. Officials from Detroit are here inSyracuse ,and they can't or won't answer questions that our workers have asked them. WE are the ones that are getting screwed. Hope you don't end ep the same way we did !

Sounds like a bitter Magna employee? Just be grateful they bought the plant and kept it open. I heard there were WAY too many job classifications at the plant for it to be even remotely competitive. With wages now standardized at the new benchmark of $14/hr it appears your plant may stay open for a couple more contracts.
