AVX has management with-out a backbone. It has allowed a mickey mouse politician and a scumbag reporter to misinform the public and bend down to them.
One airplane taking off at the airport puts more polution in the air than this machine would in 10 years.
What about road traffic? I followed a school bus home on Wednesday that smoked like a stanley steamer.
Who does AVX have to pay-off? The sun news, government or both?

Good point. DHEC and the state legislature should set stricter standards to better protect our environment and the health of our residents. Other states have emission standards on vehicles, why don't we? This state has looked the other way for too long on environmental issues- evidenced by the fact that DHEC was going to have to approve this if residents didn't get involved.
Even though this permit is pulled, many people are concerned that AVX has created far more environmental and health damages than anyone knows at this time. I support the city's efforts. AVX should not be in city limits.

South Carolina is not "other states". South Carolina is a Home Rule state. Things are done the South Carolina way. If every state was the same, there would be no need to have states. America would be a communist country.
Emissions testing on automobiles is a farce. In these days of computer controlled automobile engines, a car stops running when things go gazoo.
In a state emissions test, your vehicle is plugged into a state computer terminal and the status of your car's "check engine" light is recorded. For that, you are taxed thereabouts of $25. It is all "smoke and mirrors" for the benefit of tree humpers. Emissions after the test are exactly the same as they were before the test.
The easy way to get AVX out of the city limits is to de-annex it. AVX would love that.
We have to weigh your solution against 985 Myrtle Beach families losing their jobs. That represents 1/25 of the entire population of the city.
Replace the 985 jobs first and play NIMBY games with AVX later.
The materials AVX wants to emit have been on the earth for as long as the earth has existed. They are nothing new. Nothing has been added or subtracted from the earth's composition.
A simple solution for the emissions is to pipe them to a remote location away from the neighborhoods before treatment and release.
Another possibility is to contain the emissions and extract the energy to help power the plant.
The contaminated city block can be used as a cemetery without the need for cleanup. Occupants of a cemetery cannot be harmed by groundwater contamination. Myrtle Beach needs a place to put all the NIMBYs who worry themselves to death rather than enjoying what Myrtle Beach has to offer.

Enough AVX Bashing
- City Motor Pool
- Sun News Presses - What happens to that cleaner.
- Grounds beneath Market Common.
- Grease collection points around resturants.
The Sun. News stirs up the community then when city explodes in anger Sun News writes an article that says maybe closing AVX is pushing too far.

Poor multinational corporation.
Take care of our citizens- because AVX won't. Their interests are not local- they will use what they can, destroy it, then leave. I agree with you about looking at the other sources, though. We need to reduce all pollutants.

One Notable name in all of this is Wayne Gray.
Where was Wayne when council let county toss millions away on airport miscue. He would not stand up to city's own apperance board and is now the pro claimed stand up for the people person, and seems to forget just like his resturants AVX has a right to exist.

You guys are a bunch of nimwits...SC version...
AVX had/has a contamination, and for some time they have know this and have attempted to correct it within the SC policies/procedures.
Now people are aware, and they are still operating within the SC guidelines.
MB city council has no grounds to even suggest moving them out of city limits, as from all the facts, they have done everything within the SC policies...Right or Wrong?
Many corporations operate within city limits are able to co-exist with towns people.
