Inundating a river on a surface

Hello I have an issue I am hoping to get resolved.

Basically I have a tin surface of an area. Now I have a river that runs through the terrain and I have elevations at several parts of the river. So if u can imagine a polyline with around every 4th or 5th vertex that has an elevation associated with it. What I want to do is map an inundation of the river with the surface somehow. Does anyone have an idea on how to approach this problem? Even if I could get steered towards a right direction. I have all autodesk packages available for my use.

Thank You
