I very happy to read that Atmos Energy cutting February gas bills 25 percent. I don't think it fair to the customer paying the ridicules prices, for the natural gas and we have had unseasonable warm weather for this Winter 2006.

December was actually colder in Johnson City TN than in 2004 (35 average in 2005 compared to 37 average in 2004). And it was the December bills that everyone was complaining about.

And don't forget, Hurricane Katrina knocked out 17 percent of the natural gas supply in the US, making wholesalers raise the price of natural gas even more.

Now that the weather is warming up a bit and Katrina is another few months in the past, prices are dropping.

Hardly Atmos' fault though. Just the nature of the free market.

I wonder if that's for all of their customers? I'm in Colorado and it's been unseasonably warm and I cut back a lot on things, yet my bills are higher than they've ever been.

Has anyone examined all the natural gas feilds containing thousands of perfectly good wells that are capped and ready to go but are purposely not used?

There is no shortage.

That's interesting, where do you come by your information (not saying you are wrong, I just havent heard this).

It's possible that the capped natural gas wells are simply too expensive to operate. Natural gas was very cheap for a long time, so gas suppliers didn't develop new wells and closed down under-performing wells.

Even with natural gas prince spiking, they change so much it is no garauntee that the prices would still be high enough to make a profit by the time they uncapped the well, built a pipeline to it, and got the gas flowing.

They make up for it if ya get disconnected.
I made the error and forgot to pay my $147 bill. It cost me in excess of $500 to have my service restored the FOLLOWING day. I called in at 8am and servi ce would be resotred the follwoing day between 8 and 5. I was forced to take off work to insure someone was home because they wouldn't commit to a scheduled time between 3 and 5pm.... had I not taken the time off, ti was very possible that I would go the weekend w/o service.. totally unacceptable customer service...but since ATMOS is my only option for gas service here.. we get screwed.
Would of never happened if I got my bill paid on time, but you think it fair to be such a high penalty to get reconnected and then n ot even go the extra step to insure service tunon?

You should mention that most of that $500 is a deposit to make sure they have the money the NEXT time you forget to pay your bill.

So it's not like that money is lost. It can eventually be applied to your bill when you have a good paying history for a few years. Or if you stop being a customer, it will be refunded.
