One wonders how much of an effect NC's anti-business, high-tax climate contributed to this move.

Gotta have some way for all those uncontrolled, uninspected Mexican trucks that are going to be allowed free run of our highways to get here.

Anti-business, high-tax? NC bends over backwards (read: little/no taxes) for the privelege of having certain business (re: Google in Lenoir). That seems more like an excuse for businesses that don't want to pay a fair salary for the work being done. But, you get what you pay for...
It was the standard to move tech support jobs overseas to save money, yet ironically now, these jobs are coming back to the US.

I wouldn't be surprised if this trend occurs to more industries.

High tax, perhaps, but North Carolina is considered to have one of the better environments for business in the US.

There isn't a single state that hasn't been greatly impacted by the move of manufacturing jobs out of the country.

I posted a comment earlier but somehow it got posted the article about the bomb threats at Reynolds HS.

I was wondering why the CEOs and owners of these plants move to Mexico, China, India, and any other place they move the work to. Get real you people think of all the families you probably put out on the streets. Because you have moved their jobs out of the US just so you can get more $$$$$$$$$in your pockets. Like you need it! Give some back to the company that made you rich so the companies and plants can remain here!!!!

Did I misread the article? No one losing their job. Instead of driving to Arden every morning they'll be driving to Fletcher. And, Forest City looks set to pick up a few jobs.

This is a fair sized company that has European operations that will be affected, too.

Yes...except in Alabama, it's someone else's country we're referring to. Alabama is getting jobs from other countries and our economy is booming.

Most Americans would say Alabama is a Third World country itself.

The shareholders own the company, and they want a return on their investment, so therefor they support a move to Mexico if it helps the balance sheet.

Anyhow, Class 8 trucks sales are down over 40% this year because of the new emissions requirements (thanks inviro-whackos). It doesn't make sense to keep some plants open when the production volume isn't there to support the overhead.

You are correct, they are just shuffling their resources, and closing down an operation to get rid of the overhead of maintaining that building. Real estate is a prime resource in Arden so they can sell off their building and make a mint, and send the workers over to the Fletcher plant.

It's just corporate America. Haven't you figured it out yet? Don't work for the Man and you won't have to deal with this. Small business is America, know the person that signs your paycheck.

I think many people, however, fail to look at things from the perspective of the Executives and Boards of Directors of the companies who close plants. They are quite often simply doing what they have to do to survive. It has nothing to do with greed most of the time. Rather, it is simply an exercise in survival. Would anyone suggest that a company simply go out of business than move factories in order to survive? Keep in mind that many of these huge companies have lots of stockholders who are just Average Joes. You might be surprised, if you have a 401k, how many of these companies you yourself are a stockholder of. Would you rather the company go broke and your stock be worthless, or for the company to close a factory and restructure to survive?

The issue isn't as simple as it is made to be sometimes.

Good philosphy but export/import trade is where the US makes its wealth.
