Surely you meant Peta and not the United Nations. The United Nations was not developed to keep people from fishing

I wrote there were 740,000 minke whales in 80's, but it is incorrect.
761,000 is correct, anyway.
this estimation is old, but I believe it is more reliable and fairer than studies which are released by whaling countries or anti-whaling countries.
according to IWC's estimation in 1988/89, the lower bound of 95% confident interval of the population and its annual increment were 510,000 and 3.8%, respectively. to calculate them roughly, the current least population is estimated to be about 1 million, and it increases about 38,000 annually. Japan plans to catch just below 1,000 minke whales in the Southern Hemisphere. do you still think the whaling influences badly upon recovering minke whale population? do you still think minke whale is threatened species?
and any parts of whales, which are caught for researching purpose, should be utilized as much as possible. this is a responsibility for permitted countries according to Article VIII 2 of the ICRW (International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling). or do you think the all parts of whales should be thrown away after researching?
<quoted text>
I know you are joking, right? why can you decide what others can eat? I believe that is not called "civilization", it is called as "ethnocentrism" or other discrimination.
and why can you choose which animals should be eaten, and which are not? this is called "speciesism"
please tell me your "objective" opinion for anti-whaling. nobody can be satisfied by your "discriminatory" opinion.

Paul Watson is an egotistical criminal, the Int'l Whaling Commission censured him and disassociated themselves from his criminal actions in the 90's. Greenspeace tossed the violent SOB out it the early 70's. He fancies himself a modern day pirate and gets naive environmentalists to cough up $1000 a week to be part of his crew.
He has sunk ships engaged in legal fishing.
He had a large "can opener" welded to the bow of the ship. When he kills someone or gets members of his "crew" killed I hope he will be remembered as a criminal and not some modern day hero.
Like fundamentalist terrorists he believes he answers to a higher authority and the end justifies the means. If someone dies he believes they had it coming to them.
He isn't stopping whaling, he's just living his fantasy.
Seafarer, what's your problem. Hate whales or something? The Japanese are barbaric animals living in the past. They don't need whale meat. They have no tradition of whaling. They still haven't learned from WWII that if you piss off a lot of people you may regret it. The Japanese are winning no friends around the world murdering these harmeless, highly intelligent, social, long-lived animals. The Japanese, after getting their behinds handed to them in WWII, prefer to engage those who can't shoot back.

The minute that nut job Watson sinks and kills the people on that ship, worldwide sympathy will go to the children and widows he created, not the whales.

The abortion clinic bomber believes he saving the life of the unborn when he kills the doctor.

The Islamic fundamentalist believes he has the right to kill people that don't believe his version of religion.

Paul Watson believes he has the right to murder people involved in the legal harvest of whales.

Yes, legal harvest, they have this clause in the IWC law that it's scientific collection. If they change this part of the law Japan will be in violation of international law.

Killing fisherman that are out there because they need to feed and shelter their families is not the way to get the world behind the anti-whaling movement.

Greenspeace is out there with their ship harassing and documenting the whaling, they are not endangering lives.

you don't need to trust japanese. that's why I referenced IWC web site. if you can't trust that as well, then show me any data which are more reliable and fairer. or you can trust only you wanna believe?

I can't believe their are still people out there that are promoting whaling. You people ought to be ashamed of yourselves. It is obvious they aren't into it for research, if you want to research them, wouldn't you merely study them in their own habitat and chop up the whales that died of natural causes. I feel the Japanese have very little regard for presesrvation as a whole. Perhaps someone should trail their research for each and every whale they harpoon as I'm sure you would find an empty trail to the restaurants of Japan. It's a horrid death.

Yes censureship, another great way to promote democracy. The US needs to mind their own business before we all destroy ourselves with our own self-righteousness. Eventually countries like China our going to get sick of our bullying around the world, and in one small moment will send our economy crashing down, with the rest of the world applauding. Read some of the other news stories and you'll see.
So why do you hate the United States so much.
If your too stupid to appreciate how great this country is, why not move to China, and see how great the rest of the world is. Try pulling your

Japans whale quota this year:

975 minke whales.
20 endangered finned whales.

Where? "Protected" Whale sanctuaries in the Antarctic.

Does the International Whaling commission do anything? NO. They are corrupt and bought off just like the FDA. If there were only 10 whales left the IWC would let the Jap kill ships take every last one.

Since whales have a long gestation and it takes a long time to rear a calf, these whales will be extinct in short time. They cannot breed fast enough for the voracious appetites of the Japanese.

Within 100 years or less there will be no more whales, no more oil, no more forrests, a poluted dead, lifeless ocean and no more human beings.

The planet and the negative Karma humans create by their lack of reverence for each other the planet and other living things will come back on man. Man will destroy man and his environment.

I want to see the Nissan Maru mother processing ship and its three harpoon ships on the bottom of the ocean.

The Japs say they hunt whales for "research"...funny how it always ends up on dinner plates.
I reckon I could boil up some lard, throw in some gelatine crystals for the jiggly texture, seafood stock cubes for flavour, put it in the fridge to set, chuck it in the microwave for 2 minutes, throw on a fish sauce and a twig of parsley and sell it to the japs for $500/kg and they wouldn't know the bloody diffrence!

That's the thing with japs, they'd eat the arsehole of a sun dried octopus if you told them it would give longer life or afrodisiac qualities!
They eat the good stuff over there, we eat pretend food here in the West and our poorer health shows it.
Nevertheless, I don't agree with eating a species out of existence.
Tuna and other sea life are also endangered, by the way, so we need to stop over-consuming these also.
