UNABLE TO START THE MECHANICAL EDITOR
My system is Win7 professional 64bit and the software is ANSYS13.0.
When I try to go from DM to Mechanical appear a fast a window that say: AnsysWBU.exe encountered a problem. A diagnostic file has been written: C:\DOCUME~1\carlo\IMPOST~1\Tem p\AnsysWBDumpFile.dmp, but I do not understand, also a I have a " microsoft visual c++ runtime library" problem.
I have try everything to solve the problem(reinstall windows 7, shut down anti virus and firewall,update the graphic drives..)I do not know how to solve this problem, the funy thing is that the first time I installed it was fine, but after 3 week it suddenly broke down.
Please I need help
Hi, had exactly the same problem but used the following tip (though for V13)
"
Hey,we solved the problem (or to be more precise, ANSYS Support Team sorted me out). In my case, it turned out, the error occured due to overwriting of some files after my operating system installed a couple of updates. The updates triggered the script error that hindered mechanical in the workbench to open.How we solved it? We got rid of the old Workbench 12.0 profile and allowed it to reconstruct a new one. How: 1. renamed the '.ansys' directory in %temp% to 'ansys_old' 2. renamed the 'ansys12.0' and 'v120' directories in %appdata% directory to 'ansys12.0_old' and 'v120_old' resp. 3. restarted simulation in workbench 4. carry on simulations like nothing happenedHave a lot of fun!
"
-only diference was I reoved the 3 ansys realted folders that I saw in the "temp" folder. Seems like windows updates disrupt this folder

Install the System environment variable ANS_OLD_ATTACH = 1

Advanced system settings / Environment variables
On System variables select -> New
On variable name -> ANS_OLD_ATTACH
On variable value -> 1

OK & Save

I was told that this problem can be solved by creating a new environment value named "ANS_OLD_ATTACH"=1 in you computer.

Just shut down the firewall in your windows and your firewall software which you have installed .
Good luck to everyone!

The matter for me seemed to be due to the VGA card driver. Updating did not help; however, when, I uninstalled the driver it helped. Also below is the post from Ansys knowledge base:
Knowledge Resources: Solutions
#2034058
What are possible causes of the ""Ansys WBU.exe encountered a problem..." error when viewing results in Ansys Mechanical? "AnsysWBU.exe encountered a problem. A diagnostic file has been written:..."
Product Family: Structural Mechanics
Product: ANSYS Mechanical
Version: 14.5
Area: Structural and Thermal
SubArea: Static
Last Updated: Feb 28 2014
Answer:
The error message is general and does not indicate the exact problem. The exact action the user was performing at the time this error occurs is important and should be noted.
One bug (DE65496) in R14.5.7 that caused this message to occur consistently, was related to cyclic symmetry conditions and the user setting visual expansion ON and requesting "1" sector under the Solution Branch. This has been corrected for R15.0.
Another possible explanation might be that the graphics driver is not supported. Update the graphics driver as needed.
If the above suggestions do not apply, obtain the AnsysWBDump.dmp file referenced in the error message and attach the file to an ANSYS Technical Support request for further investigation.
