Please see a short-term vacancy in academia,
on modelling HCCI/CAI IC engines by FLUENT.
Research Fellow from £31,798 to £37,990 per annum
You will be a key member of a specialist team engaged in research on the collaborative project entitled ‘A Fundamental Study of the Novel Poppet Valve 2-Stroke Auto-ignition Combustion Engine (2-ACE)’ between the University of Brighton and the Universities of Brunel, Manchester and Leeds. The project is supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and is focused on the development of numerical models for the fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer and the chemical processes that occur within internal combustion engines. This will include the implementation of the models into the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code FLUENT and a comparison of the predictions of the models with experimental data provided by the project partners. You should have a good (1 or 2:1) degree in mathematics, engineering or physics and a relevant post-graduate qualification (ideally PhD) or an equivalent level of professional experience. Essential skills: competence in numerical modelling of thermofluids, spray dynamics and combustion in internal combustion engines; good working knowledge of ANSYS ICEM CFD and FLUENT; experience of geometry preparation and meshing; FLUENT code customization via User-Defined-Functions in C under Linux. The post is fixed-term for three months as funding ends on 30 April 2012, with the expected start date of 1 February 2012 or soon thereafter. Job sharers welcome.
