abercrombie models

can someone help me with this situation. i live about an hour from nyc. i saw a posting that abercrombie models were needed at the store in new york in fifth avenue. this is supposely the biggest store they have. so i emailed them with a picture and abercrombie called me 2 days later. the guy said to come in for a interview tommorow at 5 pm. does anyone know what they exactly mean by models. i am starting to hear that these "models" also work the cash register. does anyone know if they usually intend on doing photo shoots or just have you work in the store.

When they say "models", they don't actually mean models as in photo/print, runway models.

The term models is a new term for "brand representative"..

Your basically just going to do any and every task in the store. You will fold clothes, ring up customers, and do that sorta stuff. You stand around and look pretty for the most part, you don't take part in the updates and floorsets.

I've worked for the company for 4 years now, and it's just a change in terms. You won't be taking any photos for model stuff.

Yeah, models are the new term for brand reps. You fold clothes, do fitting rooms, and do cash wrap. In between that, you stand around and look pretty. The alternative is 'impact', where you're hidden away in the back doing stockroom. I'm glad I'm not an impact, because that isn't nearly as glamorous, or easy.

I had a friend who worked at abercrombie for about 2 months. He told me the manager asked him if he wanted to move to NY to model. I didnt really believe him at first. Then I went shopping there one day and he was outside of abercrombe on break. The manager was with him and they were talking about it. Sure enough he did go. Anyway I just now read from these comments that when they say models they mean people who just work in the store. Well I was wondering how you acutally become a model for abercrombie like the ones you see in the pics in the store.? Also why did they ask him to move to NY to model after on working for abercrombie for 2 months? I ve seen some of his modeling pics on myspace so I m not sure if he is just working in the store or really modeling. The reason I m asking is cause I am interested in becoming a model myself. Is there any way i can get them to recognize me or could i send them some pics? I m not sure what to do.

they tell u to go to your local A&F store to apply. Once you become a "store model" you're able to apply for higher paid modeling for A&F. I'm going to try it, i love their clothes!!!=]

Hey Sam, I've got a model interview 4 the London store n just wondered if u could tell me what its like. Also prob snds stupid but is every1 at the interview proper models or just normal teens? Cheers

Hey Lou,
The term 'model' they just use instead of sales assistant, as that's pretty much what the position is. Not sure what the pay is like. I have been for a model and impact (stock/replenishment) position, so 2 interview but I haven't been successful most probably, as they haven't got back to me.
Its a group interview...I guess 10 people or something with 1/2 assessors and they ask each of us 4 questions...introduce yoursel, 2 words to describe yourself, the brand, 2 words for yourself and why they should employ you.
I tried to convince them I really wanted to work there but I don't think they bought it at all. I could only work weekends and that might not have helped me, but that aside I dont think the recruitment process was very democratic to be honest. The assessors weren't exactly very friendly or warm people, and it seems easier if you know someone who works there, rather than being just passionate about the brand. Don't mean to sound negative..but hope that helps!

Forgot to mention before...most of the people at the assessment were attractive teens/early 20's. I don't think this is a prerequisite for the role though....I think the company wanted people with a 'natural' look, i.e. minimal jewelery/make up for girls, guys: minimal/no hair product and clean shaven.
Anyway hope your interview goes well! I can't wait till the store opens myself.
