They said they wouldn't try to over ride this year because of a "technical flaw" in the bill. Then why on earth was it passed in the first place. More than likely they now realize it was a worthless piece of paper that only hurt people and businesses in Hawaii that made referrals.
But this doesn't mean the lolos in the legislature won't be back next year with a new version. Once they target something to be taxed, they're relentless. Plus they don't like losing.
my take on the situation

Thank you Linda Lingle for vetoing this asinine bill introduced by our money grubbing democratic politicians.

At least she got this one right.

Now is definitely NOT the time for Hawaii to show its customary anti-business colors.

Not to mention that any law or action (etc.) that impedes interstate commerce is illegal anyway.

These blood sucking politicians who refuse to operate within a budget believe "just raise taxes" to solve problems. The only problem is they will most likely over ride the veto. Remember the names of these vampire politicos who refuse to stay within the confines of a sane budget.

Vote them all out!

Hey, Blood Sucker, before you go criticising, try reading the article. The legislature will not attmpt to over ride this veto. They recognize it is flawed. Got it? You must have had some bad blood last night, eh?

As previously stated, the true key to this article is this quote:
"State House leaders said yesterday they felt the bill had a technical flaw and therefore would not attempt to override the veto."

Again, a poorly, possibly illegal, bill passes both the House and Senate without the error being caught.
This happens all the time, and no one is held responsible.
That 36% raise is well worth it, when you have such quality work being done.
