The farmers (at least the independent ones, maybe not the big conglomerates like Tyson's and Perdue) deserve this federal help, and I hope they get it without anyone misunderstanding this as a "bailout" (except regarding the corporate big boys who are driving the independents out of business), but ain't it ironic that a Governor who so so quick to jump on every "tell the feds to butt out!" bandwagon that rolls by is now a repeat governmental pan-handler applying to go on the federal dole? If he was true to his principles, he'd say the same thing he says on the stump: States can solve their own problems without federal intrusion, and do so faster and better without any interference (including money) from Washington. Or is this his Rosanne Rosannadana moment?

Food & Beef grown/raised in VA does not necessarily STAY in VA, smart-guy. If Obama wants his precious off-spring to eat well this winter, he might want to "share the wealth" he keeps touting. If everything was to feed Virginia, I might agree with you.

I don't think Obama needs to give McDonnell disaster funds to make sure American people get to eat. There is no food supply shortage in this country, and Va's farms supply very little toward the national haul. That mainly comes from the real big ag states, like Cal, Fla, and the midwest bread baskets. I agree with ironic appreciator that if governors are going to keep trashing the intrusion of the feds, they need to stop begging for fed help every time they run into trouble caused by their own states' not being able to prepare for a dryer or wetter summer than expected, or a colder or warmer winter. Of course, politics doesn't really mix well with honesty, which is I guess irony appreciator's point -- there aint no way McDonnell can quit trashing Obama and still keep getting the contributions he wants from his base to fuel is future campaigns. After all, some day both he and Ken Cuccinelli will be competing for those contributions when running for higher office, and Bob can't let Kenny out tea-bag him.
