That's because of the cost of living and wages suck, you have to work hard to survive here.

It's because the damn benefits ran out. I was on unemployment for 2 years. Now that I'm not able to receive it I'm considered employed even though I'm not working.

Your absolutely right...it was all political. The minute Virginia claimed the states unemployment rate fell below 6%, it dropped thousands of unemployed from the system, along with their chances to pay any bills with the unemployment check they were receiving. Now those thousands will default on loans, and turn to food stamps, medicare and financial help from the state to pay their rents, medical, and utility bills. This was all done to put a "feather" in the Governer's hat, and show that "he has the answers to put the state and country back on track". It's nothing more than a smoke show. Shame on him and "his" cronies. He's no better than that deadbeat in the White House.

Anybody out there looking for a job, finding it any better? Of coarse not. If the politicians would take off the "rose colored glasses", they might actually see things the way it really is. Now there will be hundreds of unemployed flocking to central Virginia to get work...only there isn't any. More unemployed hanging around...signing up for food stamps and financial aid. Reporting a false "low unemployment rate" is as damaging to the economy as raising the minimum wage.

The true title of this article should read "The number of people recieving unemployment is down"....followed with a true number of people who are out of work. This includes people whos benefits have ended and people who have not worked at all. Why don't we ever see statistics on who's on welfare, Section 8, food stamps, etc. The rise in those numbers need to be reported so citizens can see what's really happening. No one is getting jobs, they are just losing benefits. It's terriably misleading and the government should be ashamed of themselves.

If you can figure out a way to make a politician "ashamed of their actions and lies told", you'd better get a patent on it. They and their cronies all have high paying jobs, and thats all that matters to them. I can't believe that Virginia had the gall to post low unemployment numbers this past week, and the rest of the country went up. This makes the Governor look dumber than the moron we have in the White House, and everyone knows that Obama is out of touch with the whole country. All fifty states are in dire straights, and he thinks every thing is doing great. Even flying around the world promising billions at a time to different countries to aid them. How about aiding this country and keeping our money home.

YOU SAID IT!! UVa is taken unfair advantage of it's employees by dumping more and more work on them, KNOWING there is nowhere else for them to go! I'm happy that the area's unemployment rate is low (but right -- that will attract outsiders who will eventually add to "The Haven" issues), but, seriously -- how is all that "hope and change" B.S. working out for everyone?! Notice how quiet the media and rest of the Libidiots are? They're not screaming for Broke O'Bummer's blood over the gas like they were for Bush's!

Why, thank you!:-) I used to be a LITTLE to the left of center on SOME things, but now I've gone all the way to the right! Hard-core Conservative. They can shove that socialist garbage. Doesn't work. The people that were raised correctly, will WANT to work hard to earn their keep; the others are content to let the REST of us carry them along. After a while, we become too tired and BROKE to do so, or realize, why the heck should WE have to do all the work?

Considering how many in this town neither work nor pay taxes and live on public assistance programs we might be able to get away with saying we have 100% employment.

How are you considered employed if your not working? That makes no logical sense.
