What happened to the PMI that most buyers with less than 20% down payment are required to buy ? Why does no one mention this insurance when they discuss losses in the mortgage industry. Where did the premiums go, who is underwriting this insurance and why are they not covering the losses ? Cannot help but note that the Mortgage Insurance Company of America spent over $5 million in fees to Washington lobbyists in 2006.
