How to choose a panel mounting electric power analyzer
For the http://[www.cqbluejay.com] panel mounting meter, usually used in the power system as centralized data collection device, can provide current, voltage, active power, reactive power, power factor, energy consumption MD record etc. Some http://[www.cqbluejay.com/Prod ucts/Electrical_Automatic/Mult ifunction_power_meter/1.html] advanced power analyzer even has grid unbalance analysis, current/voltage THD reading, harmonic analysis, muti-triff record. Make the mounting electric power analyzer to be a big family.
As there so many types of electric power analyzer in the market, some supplier claim their meter can do every thing, but which one is your needed?
Now we are starting to understand the power analyzer:
To be a metering device, so you must pay attention on the measurement accuracy. We all know that the analog panel meter has the accuracy of 2.5% or worse, but digital panel meter usually has accuracy of 1%, but if we need 0.5% or 0.2% in some electric parameter such as current and voltage, so please check careful or your supplier’s data sheet
of this item. BTW, some one confused the accuracy and meter solution, that you can find some claim 0.1% accuracy meter, but the price just below $100.
2. Measurement features:
Most of panel mounting power analyzer can measure: three phase current, three phase voltage, three phase active power, three phase reactive power, three phase power factor, three phase energy consumption data.
You may want some more features: MD record, grid unbalance analysis, current/voltage THD reading, http://[www.cqbluejay.com/Prod ucts/Electrical_Automatic/Mult ifunction_power_meter/64.html] harmonic analysis etc.
So you need to clear witch feature is necessary, the more measurement parameter in a meter, the higher price you need to pay!
3. Changes the measurement range and power supply:
Most of the power analyzer can use CT and PT, AC voltage of 100V to 400V, AC current of 1A to 5A .It not only to protect your metering device, but also can expend the measurement range, you just need to set CT/PT multiply ratio, you can easy to read the secondary side electric data, without this feature, you will use a calculator to do some paper work.
For the power supply, because use of modular power supply, the power analyzer have a large range from 85~265AC/DC, covers a variety of industrial power. And some of the company can provide a low voltage power supply such as 12~48VDC, so you need know clearly your local power line before order.
4. Communication port
If you only need a basic power meter, you can skip this chart, but a good power analyzer all have the communication port. Panel mounting power analyzer can replace a PLC in many application for their lower cost. It can have the following
http://[www.cqbluejay.com/Prod ucts/Electrical_Automatic/Rout er_and_adapter/1.html] RS232/RS485: To send measurement data to the host PC and receive the control command.
DI/DO port: According to the measured signal change or PC command to control the relay status, make your system smarter. 0~20mA, 0~5V transducer port: Used to replace the electric parameter transducer, you can save a lot of money and reduce the wiring.
Zigbee and GPRS: It is rookie of wireless communication, but it looks most company can not provide a mature product
But you need to know not all the ports are in one meter! Find you needed one is the best choice.
5. Screen display:
In the market there have 3 modes: 4 digital LED screen, LCD screen, TFT LCD screen. Every one want a good visual interface, but if your budgetary constraints, you’d better choose the LCD screen, it can clearly show the various parameters and indicators. You want waveform chart? Please confirm with the supplier if their power analyzer have this function, and it TFT screen will cost you much!
