AEP lays out power-plant closings to meet proposed EPA rules | The Columbus Dispatch

Proposed federal clean-air rules could have a profound impact on American Electric Power, leading to an increase in electricity bills, the closing or partial closing of 11 power plants and the loss of 600 jobs, the company said. Read more

Can't wait to see the increase in the electric bill from this tomfoolery. Thanks, EPA!

The EPA's new regulations will save lives about as well as the Federal Stimulus scam saved and created jobs. This is just another big lie from big government.

"We all want a cleaner planet and cleaner air and do the best we can to be good stewards of the environment," he said.

Stivers' lies are nothing short of repulsive, even by the low standards of US politicians. This is a man who told a Greenpeace organizer in public in 2008 that he recognized the urgent need to act to cut carbon emissions -- as the most respected scientific body in the world, the National Academy of Sciences, warns that we must. By 2010, with a pile of Koch brothers' and coal industry cash backing him, Tea-Party Steve was no longer much interested in what climate scientists are telling us. He flatly told the so-called 912 coalition that he would oppose steps to cut carbon, that all but four federal government agencies could be abolished, and that citizens access to the courts to enforce environmental laws should be abolished.(He even endorsed a reckless, fruitcake-right pledge to end automatic witholding of income taxes.)

The man who filled out that 912 survey is not a man who "wants to be a good steward of our environment" or cares about a cleaner planet. If Steve Stivers thinks he's going to be able to oppose EPA efforts to protect public health, support right wing extremist moves to ban EPA from acting on carbon pollution and strangle its budget, and shuck himself off as someone who cares about anything but pleasing industry backers and science deniers, I've got news for him. You can twist your positions like a pretzel, and you have, but the truth will hound you and hunt you down, Steve Stivers. Stop lying to people.

Our Conesville Plant would be reduced in employees. Does this guy know how depressed our county is with employment already? You "may" breath slightly easier, but you have to eat to stay alive. We won't even talk about the already flooded housing market with foreclosures. The EPA should be reined in- they are way too big, and could care less about the citizens lives. They're only in this for themselves. And I'll bet they don't even have a hard time sleeping at night! What a scam....EPA go to Europe and do your good deeds.

The Rust Belt is the heart of American Manufacturing, and most of it is driven by coal-fired power plants. Detroit was already having power issues yesterday, what's going to happen when even more power plants close? Forget about utility bills increasing, think about the ability to simply get power. You think we're having an an anemic economic recovery now, just you wait.

Who cares if kids get brain damage that could have been prevented with a modest investment? They'll make better right wingers if they dont think very well.

Well, "Jesus," since this is rather obviously the fallacy of the false choice, I'll say nice try but no cigar.

WOW! Nothing like a great big straw man to burn, eh wag?

Seems that the loony left has the thinking right beat in the brain damage department already if your post is any indicator.

The incoherent ramblings of a climate cultist. The chief priests of the cult, the National Acadamy of Sciences, a politically connected church that leeches tax money in order to spread its weird and scientifically asinine theories on Anthropogenic (man made) Global Warming (AGW) demand that they and they alone be given complete control over the environmental decision making process. To do this they inculcate school children and college students into their strange little faith by using my tax dollars to produce "studies" which concoct "climate models" that are in every way a failure, completely unable to make a prediction that comes anywhere close to being correct. When I got my degree in biochemistry we were taught that if the model doesn't work the science is bad. Yet the faithful continue to believe. Because their cult leaders say so. Thanks, David S for being such a great example proving that it wasn't just Harold Camping that was wrong on the apocalyptic predictions.

97 percent of leading climate researchers are also part of the cult (Stanford, 2010). And the national science academies of the 13 largest nations. And NASA and NOAA satellite data. And the Arctic Ocean.

That's some cult.
