The Illinois Commission warned last year that cuts in tree trimming might lead to problems, gee can they also predict the weather? Give us a break. If they thought this was going to happen, why didn't they step in and do something about it.
You can make all kinds of statements about this, that and the other, but in the REAL world, nothing is perfect.

What is the Illinois Commerce Commission empowered to do? Sounds like they trusted Ameren and Ameren violated the trust. Why should Ameren get a rate hike when they reap huge profits now and can't keep the lights on in a moderate climate?

And could you of done a better job keeping the lights on and if so how? Sounds to me like we have alot of incompetent people that didn't plan worth a darn. The ICC could have voiced their opinions alot sooner and assisted with suggestions vs. sitting idly by until after the fact.

Here the politicians are talking about prior tree trimming that may have possibly saved some a day here or there on the outage - now let's see, here in Decatur, IL our mayor is saying that it could take several months for clean up of the tree limbs, now why is that ok - what's their excuse for this lengthy amount of time and no they can't blame the utility companies for that. It's because they do not have enough man/woman power and why is that? So who wasn't prepared? Yep, the pot calling the kettle black.

Funny thing is, they let Ameren shape all of their decisions regarding which method to procure power and idiotically declared the auction a success when it was clearly not.
And I know that Ameren would have used a rate freeze as an excuse to stick it to the consumer service-wise, so I wasn't in favor of the freeze.
But the great liberal legislators in Illinois sure pushed a freeze right before the elections, then when the elections were over and it looks as if their lying to the Illinois voter worked...they changed their minds...wow..there was a surprise.

Bottom line, the ICC has nothing to say about what happened to the outages, they have been kissing Ameren's rear end the entire year and oh...now they want to act like they care about the consumer?
The ICC needs to be voted out.
