I am an average working american, whom has had a hard enough time paying my house payment and car payment and all the high utility bills we have now anyway and now the electric companies don't think they get enough money as it is, so they get a 22% electric rate hike. Gas is so exspensive we can barely afford to get to work and back as it is. Now this, You no I got a cost of living raise this year of a big 1.8%, now the electric co. get a cost of living raise of 22% and the gov.(senate and house reps} gave themselves from what I understand from the news a 16% cost of living raise.I think the big fish do not want us little fish to make it at all because the water for us is drying up. And if they don't see it or not the lower class working folks are who pay most of the taxes and the rich get all the tax breaks.Something has got to give in the lower and middle class working folks or this country is going to fold. The gas co. and the electric co. have the monoply and they no it, so you would think the gov. could step in and freeze or lower there hikes. or control it at a more affordable rate.I realize that the rich man does not really have to worry if he should pay his electric bill or buy groceries, or his medications. But the people that make 7:50 an hr or a little more are already barely getting by as it is and now this, the electric is going up 22% that is so rediculous to let them have that large of a rate hike.I hope someone can help us working people or maybe all of us should apply for energy assistance since we all pay taxes and let the gov. pay our bills.

Im sorry to hear that you are having a tough go of things, however, why is it not right to have an increase after a 10+ year freeze? I wouldn't want my increase be it large or small frozen for this period of time.

They are a company that brings in more than we will ever "honestly" know about. Billions & billions! They are screwing the public & I don't care how long of a freeze! People in Illinois are having a hard enough time paying gas increases and every other INCREASE!!!!!!!!!! Can you say....BEND OVER??????

I'd say that the majority stockholders for Ameren are the CEO, Sr.VP's., VP's, and Ameren board members. They even created 4 more VP spots within the last couple of weeks to spread the wealth to some more of their "chosen ones". Their perks include thousand of shares of stock options each year. Why do you think they work so hard to keep the stock price and profit margin up so high, while cutting back on maintenance and operating expenses at every opportunity? Easy-it puts more $$$ in their pockets!
