hello reid I'm sorry for the position your in. I wish I had a way of warning you what you were getting into. Plainfield mom apparently does not understand the comcept of budgets or outrageous I'm in central Illinois but still experiencing what everyone else is. My favorite part of this whole mess is Ameren was fully aware of the bills they were going to generate a long time ago. It is not like they said "whoops". They chose not to care and to lie to us about the increase. Maybe plainfield mom can buy all of us a bunch of heavy blankets so we can sit curled up with our heat turned down so we can "conserve". Is this still america. I feel like we are in another country when basic necessities cannot be met. Maybe we should just go our and build a bunch of wood houses in the woods and go back to the 1800s since we can't afford the new world order. who is going to buy all the new electric gadgets when they can't afford to use them.

Let's see PLAINFELD MOM,why are you to much of a coward to use your real name. You can defend Ameran all you want but just know that their wouldn't have been a rate freeze issued if they weren't being as greedy back then as they are being now.Do you honestly think they care about you? They don't.Get over it.And taxes shouldn't have to be lowered to let the electric company get what they want. This is America and lets time I check we aren't suppose to let the government push us around. The government or the electric company are not angels. They both had ten years to fix this
Ashley...you make me laugh cause I am not a coward because I use a screen name. I'm sure that Ashely tells us all exactly who you are.

You're right...we shouldn't let the government push us around, nor do I want to give them any more power then we have to.

Ok, let's here your solution to the problem other than re-freeze rates? They will eventually go up sometime and then what?

Did Plainfield mom say ELECTRIC blanket??? It's the electricity we can't afford. Do they make a Kerosene blanket? Oh that's right. Kerosene is now $3.13 gal.
Yes, I said "Electric" blanket!

O.K., I think I'm starting to believe some of you aren't quite quick enough to comprehend what I'm saying and that may be why you can't afford to pay your bills. I mean if you cannot figure out that you can turning the electric down in your whole house and using a low-voltage blanket to heat your body only since you're not moving around at night, then there's no hope for you.

I have just a few things to add. Yes, we have actually been lucky, and yes, the rate hike was expected when the freeze ended. But NOBODY expected 30%-40% rate hikes, more or less 300$ in some areas. But even PRIOR to the freeze's end, Illinois residents paid the THIRD highest rate for electricity in the COUNTRY. Now that a bill has been passed re-freezing and capping Ameren rates, they are crying that they will go broke. But go to any reputable stock website and research AAE. Their stock is continually going up, and the company is making money. Even through the PREVIOUS 10 YEARS. You want a rate hike than fine, make it 40% spread over the next 10 years. Thats 5% a year. Most people could deal with that. As for dropping the discounts that they offerd at the same time as the hike, albeit knowingly, this I would consider fraud and they should be FORCED to re-instate ALL of these discounts to existing customers and fined heavily.

I'm still waiting for your solution (one that is possibly feasible). How long are they to freeze rates, until you win the lotto?

As far as no hope for me...I don't live my life hoping and dreaming, I go out and do something...not just complain.

Maybe moving somewhere out of state (i.e. where it is warm) "is" your solution.

First, I don't see where I said "you people" in my posting. Second, I do live a comfortable life but that does not make me a bad person. Third, I do care about kids, the poor and the feeble that's why I don't want to see the government get their hands on the controls of any business. By the way, their are programs who help those who truly need it.
There may be programs, but funding is limited and not everyone in need is eligible.
Perhaps a visit to your local Energy Assistance office or welfare office will show you that these 'programs' are lacking.

Exactly.
First, find a state with a temperate climate...you know, not too hot (Florida/Texas)...
Then you have to find a job out of state, an affordable home...etc.
Yeah, it's worth moving away from friends and family.

You know, the utility companies aren't like a grocery store...it's not like they 'run out' of electricity or anything. I understand it does cost something to 'make' it, but come on.

Yeah, funding is limited because we have to earmark alot of available moneys for the illegals!
