I currently work for Computer Sciences Corporation and my contract is getting to its end. Should I avoid ACS due to the recent scandal? Or should I take a look at it?

Think twice about taking the job. Take a look at all of the blogs here. As a former employee at the management level, I can tell you that they are not the best organization to work for. You will be miserable within a few months. Check it out more carefully!

It's a horrible place to work. They constantly threaten to send your job overseas and expect you to be available 24/7. If you sign on, keep your resume floating because they are famous for layoffs, terminations, lack of training, few if any raises, and a general lack of concern about their people.

So far I don't think anyone except the dozen or so executives in Dallas should feel at all comfortable in ACS.

They are not fair to any employee, although there are many good managers who try to do the right thing for the employees that work for them. It is difficult to manage when ACS policy is not in line with the it's Corporate Mission.

As you ponder employment with ACS, specifically, ACS Healthcare Solutions, consider this: I received the 'lay-off' call on January 24th.

As a former member of the 'Cerner Domain' I find it strange that there are ads posted for Cerner Millennium experience.

Additionally, I am concerned that several new members of the Cerner Domain Team were introduced during the team conference call oheld on the Wednesday following my lay-off.

I have read all of the comments on blog. Are the turnover rates and work hours/conditions really that bad?

It is very hard to describe the inequities in this company. The executive management from directors on up are totally ruthless. You would be better served if you could find employment elsewhere. This company doesn't deserve it's people.

One example given to me was as a result of the death of a key employee. When notified of this situation a VP stated ' Oh shit, now who the hell will do all that work?'

Gives you a real warm and fuzzy, doesn't it.

Worked at ACS. Not a horrible company but not the best. Hard to move up and around...especially if you start somewhere near the bottom. Possibility of layoffs are always close with them having so many off-shore sites. Agree with a previous post of not being paid very well. I'd be wary but go with your gut.

I would never have anyone I cared for apply, or accept any position within ACS. I have been there for almost 7 years, and it gets worse daily. My management team only sees little dollar signs flashing above our heads. We are currently in overtime, but being told to expect a layoff sometime during the summer. They could care less about working you 7 days a week for a month, and then laying off the next. They are turning down doctors statements, and will probably be freezing PTO time within the next few weeks. I'm not so sure that they can legally turn down the doctors statements, but all of the co-workers are abiding by their rules, and until if affects me directly there is nothing that I can do. But i don't believe that is legal, do any of you? The pay, which is by the piece, is absolutely horrible...we are also put in different pay groups based on our quality, the hours, however, have exhausted all of us, meaning that we make more errors and in return, get paid less. I also had a co-worker pass away who had been very devoted for years, and I don't believe that anyone from the management team attended the funeral. PITIFUL!

The concern for people in this company can be likened to the sweat shops of the early 20th century. The philosophy is drive them till they drop. When they drop (if still conscious) prop them up and drive them till they drop again. Then RIF them because they're of no further use. To quote a former employee,' Use'm, abuse'm, lose'm).

It's what they do - hire good people - use them up and lay them off. Indentured servitude isn't even close to the word.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Scorpio

It will be easy to let things get on top of you today, especially if you're already feeling rather tired and listless. Do yourself a favor and keep away from anyone who often makes you feel a bit fed up or defensive, because they're the last person you want to be around at the moment. They'll make your spirits sink down to your ankles in a flash, and who needs that?
