be careful what you wish for. You may lose legacy carrier service because they don't play the low fare game anymore.

Once the grant money is gone the airline will follow. How many times have they tried this? Huntsville is a business airport and they can charge any price because the majority flying in and out are flying on their companies dime.

Here's another example of Huntsville building up your hopes and then letting you down. Is it really that hard to get SouthWest here? We already have three airlines that offer non-stop flights to DC. Way to go Battle...

Air Tran Airways website would only give me a list of 10 destination cities. If Huntsville really wanted to help to flying public they would have got SouthWest Airlines.

This is wonderful news! I'm curious to know if there are any future plans to expand the service to include Dulles Airport (IAD)? If so, will the fare be the same price as the BWI flight?

No, unfortunately. You have to go to Nashville or B'ham if you want to fly SW.

Ahh that must have been what I was thinking of (Nashville).

Isn't this an instant replay? If we really want to do a permanent low cost airline and one that many people will use, then get an airline with a proven track record of performance and destinations. I guess Air Trans offered the best perks to those who made the decison which carrier would get the contract. Too bad. I'd have given very serious consideration and concessions to SouthWest. Now that's a carrier that goes places!

Are you HIGH, Clairee? Huntsville doesn't even rate a Greyhound depot! You think they're gonna put an AIRLINE there?!

No they don't, just the big ones like United, Delta/Northwest, US Airways...

We do have a Greyhound station. Only thing were missing in Huntsville is Amtrak (stopped service due to profitability or lack thereof).

If you lose your big name carriers in the meanwhile you will have nothing left in the end.

I am new to the area, but prefer to look at the glass as what it is - HALF. I welcome the AirTran brand and look forward to flying to Baltimore & Orlando

In my opinion, this venture will not work. It is going to fail and fail miserably. If Huntsville International Airport officials really want to get some competitive business in the terminal, then I've got two words for them. SOUTHWEST AIRLINES

Your current airlines will close shop if you get low-cost carrier competition and they won't come back. The airline world has changed. Some small cities are begging for service after they tried playing hardball. Be very, very, very, very, very, careful what you wish for. If you bring in SW and the other airlines leave then what will you do when SW decides to abandon you? Get ready to drive to Nashville.

Well, what does that tell ya, Jethro? That was just ONE STOP on a railroad line. They want to base an AIRLINE there?!

Now, if guv-mint money is involved, that explains a lot...
