This past week I've heard a ton of different stories, none of which contradict each other, about Bennett being out of control. I'm willing to forgive and give people a second chance, but the way in which he is handling things makes me sick to my stomach. A lot of people are going to leave this church with an Ill-conceived notion of Christianity and Christ's followers. It's hard enough in this day to get people to open their minds and hearts, but to do something like this to them when they do!? I hope things settle down and he steps away from the church to get the help he needs. There are so many good people in that church who want nothing more than to give back, hopefully God finds a way for them to do so and save this Church's reputation before this man completely defiles it.

He was honest and transparent but I'm sure his lack of commenting is for legal purposes, because if you have ever met him, then you would no that its not in his nature to hide things. This comment board is full of people who just want to slam him or don't get the nature of forgiveness. He made a mistake, he admitted it and everyone seems very quick to forget all of the good that has come from the church. Bennett has always said that he is trying to be authentic and people screw up. This is classic of church people turning on their own when it gets bad despite his 20 plus years of dedication. The church has poured large amounts of money to make that parking lot safe for our kids, including cameras and gates speed bumps, etc. Don't comment on what you don't know and the news conveniently left stuff out bc the pastors couldn't tell their story until it was resolved in court.
You're pretty sure this came from a staff member who had no right commenting..... Which staff member would that be? One that Bennett fired this week or one of the many that have quit recently? At what point do we stop blaming EVERYBODY else and realize what the common denominator is in this problem?? He was honest and transparent?? Seriously? He doesn't even comprehend the meaning of those two words. Hundreds of people have left that church over the years when they learn what the Smith's truly stand for. Those that left were all considered Judas for leaving and it was their fault. Now some of Bennett's staunchest supporters/ staff are gone and the remaining kool-aid drinkers are trying to blame those that are gone. Those of us that have been hurt the most by his transgressions still pray for salvation for this church and it's members but the bottom line is he MUST leave for God's grace to be able to start the healing process. Very soon everyone will see this fight he is waging to stay is more about getting every last penny of the family's salary than it is about truly caring about what is best for the congregation. He can lie to everyone, including himself, about what is going on there but God knows the truth and someday he will have to answer for what he has done. I will continue to pray for all involved, including the Smiths but please don't try to act like this is "classic church people turning on their own". There is nothing classic about what is going here....

There is a right to free speech and hundreds, maybe even thousands of people can't be wrong. So you shut up and let us bitch about the truth. You are obviously retarded and need therapy as bad as Bennett.

My thoughts, exactly. The worst part is that the majority of the congregation don't even know what's really going on. With everything that's gone down over the past few weeks, that wontast long. Hopefully the truth is uncovered in one way or another and the people will have an informed decision to make when it comes to following him as a pastor and leader.

Why is everyone hush hush about what is going on within the walls of this church? Is that really WWJD?

The church is private property. People shouldn't be cutting through period. There were gates up years ago, but some drunk driver hit it and damaged it and the church didn't have the funds at the time to repair it so the "cut through" was open and people once again took advantage of it. Once the church had enough money to repair/replace the gates they did. This isn't just a church. It is a daycare and a school. Would you want people cutting through your kids schools parking lots? I don't even have kids and I don't think anyone should be using the parking lot unless you work there, go to church there or your kids attend.
About the Pastors. Instead of complaining and spreading gossip which in the Bible are both sins...how about you use your time and energy to pray for them, pray for the church and ask God for forgiveness for your words. People are hurting here. God is in control, but we need love, not hatred.

to "concerned ex member" I agree with a lot of what you said, but don't call the rest of us that have stayed "kool-aid" drinkers. We are staying for GOD and for OUR Church and putting our faith and hope in God that He is in control of this devastating situation and that things will turn around and we will be able to finally move forward. Please do not judge those staying or assume we are on a certain side or naive/oblivious...we are not. We are fighting for what is right and with God on our side...we will win.

Also to whoever said it yes, you have freedom of speech, but again, prayers would be appreciated rather than slander. This is extremely difficult on all involved, staff, members and yes even the Smith's. Prayer is needed for all God's children.

Remember, God can move mountains...he can certainly change people and turn a church!

I did not write either post but it is frustrating when so many staff and members have lied or "covered" for the Smiths. Christ would not condone their behavior. He consistently called out the one's who did wrong when abusing others but had mercy on the sinners. They have taken this Church and used it to buy themselves luxuries and when I heard him say last Sunday that they have given so much of themselves, I was disgusted. They have given to themselves, not of themselves. Plastic surgeries, expensive cars, luxury vacations, as many days off as they please, memberships, days at the golf course, days at the OSU games. Come on did church interrupt their play time that much that they h cannot work? Is this how the Churches money should be spent on huge incomes for the Smith family? How many of us get to take a year off and or show up a few Sundays a year? The members need to vote him out and save this church. He will surely run it into the ground before he does what is best for his staff and congregation. How many people have resigned or been fired in the last week and a half? How many associate pastors has he had in the past few years? Can he be right and the rest of everyone be wrong?

I keep reading this post and it really bothers me so I want to specifically address some of the things you said.

"Bennett addressed the issue on Sunday, apologized, admitted that he had been stressed out and was only human and loved the church."

#1 Bennett didn't address THE issue(S). He only came up with a cover story as to why he resigned to begin with. Don't say that he addressed the issues as to why he was resigning or asked to resign to begin with. Those confessions have yet to come out of his mouth. Also, he used the excuse of "we received so much love from all of you through texts, emails, etc asking us to reconsider so we prayed and decided to stay." This is true...because I was one of them, BUT...I guarantee if all of us who sent those would have known THE FACTS...we would not have asked him to reconsider. The truth is, once he found out his son was not taking over "his business" (how I believe he sees it...instead of God's church) that is what made him decide to withdraw his resignation.
#2 he did NOT apologize. You have to confess your sins before you can apologize for them. Again, he has confessed nothing concerning what this is all about.

"He was honest and transparent but I'm sure his lack of commenting is for legal purposes, because if you have ever met him, then you would no that its not in his nature to hide things."

This is what bothers me the most. I loved Bennett. He was the first Pastor who ever truly taught me that being transparent and authentic were key to being Christ-like. I grew up in a church were NO ONE was either. So, it bothers me to my core that he is being neither of these at this time and now that I know of all of the deception...I am now questioning if he ever truly was. I believe he was about his past, but nothing about his present.

The "not in his nature to hide things" well, it is apparent it is VERY much a part of his nature to hide things, betray and deceive. This is what hurts the most. I still love Bennett because that is what I am called to do "love one another", but I am deeply hurt by him.

"He made a mistake, he admitted it and everyone seems very quick to forget all of the good that has come from the church."

Yes, he made several mistakes and YES...he is human and that is where our grace and forgiveness should come in, but he NEVER ADMITTED ANYTHING!!!!!!! Don't be fooled. Don't turn a blind eye. It's a magic show of deep deceptions.

I will end with Romans 16:17-18 "I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; AVOID THEM. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by SMOOTH TALK AND FLATTERY THEY DECEIVE THE HEARTS OF THE NAIVE."

Didn't Bennett Smith just say that he considered retiring in his sermon on the 25th? What happened to honesty? I dont remember anything about resigning for being forced to resign. At what point to his followers say enough is enough. How many times can he be accused of being a liar before we start to believe it? repent is a little different in my book then what was misleading and manipulating on the 25th

You must of been the person he was having an affair with! That's the problem he has never done anything wrong. It will all come out in the court room and we will see who is right and who is wrong. Abe
