That's an interesting history. We are all Jock Tamson' s bairns as is said in Scotland. It is amazing about who we are related to, royalty and scoundrels too, no doubt!sorry Warner I haven't answered sooner. I was tracing lineage down.
The MacNeacils are the Nichols or MacNichols. The association spells it MacNicol. Some have said they were northerners but in reality they are Celts who reached Scotland from the Emerald Isle through Rathkill into Dalriada.
My family of ancestors are rather an odd lot. It seems I am also descended from Alfred the great.
The most illustrious group are the D'Aubignes, anglicised to Abney.
One branch I traced to first century AD.
The most ironic is I am descended from both Charlemagne and Widukind who were enemies at one time.
I think that the SNP will be very pro European, but most Scots hate dictats from Europe. People may go for independence but l don't think that they will be left with a Scottish identity. Nicola Sturgeon is a good representative for the SNP, she seems trustworthy for a Politician. Alex Salmon is a charismatic man and Scots relate to him well. I think a lot of young people will vote for independence but it's 50/50 at the moment. The trouble is that Scots don't like being dictated to by anyone, not English, not Europe. They just want to make all their own decisions and have no master and that is understandable in view of past history. So, when they are representing in Europe, there should be a few verbal punches thrown. Europe has destroyed the livelihoods of the Scottish fishermen and handed the Scottish waters over to the other European countries. All of Scotland's oil has not benefited the Scots and the petrol prices are the dearest in Europe, probably the World. There needs to be some verbal punches thrown!
