Julian Assange is happy to hear that, I'm sure.
While I'm not a fan of his, the allegations in Sweden reek of political motivation and would not be charged as rape in this country.

Further, Assange is an Australian, not a Swede.

Do you know that Azerbaijan and Albania, both Islamic nations, have only .2 and .7 rapes per 100,000 people?
And tell us what those two countries don't have, wee man. Think hard.

The sight of two of the most idiotic leftist tools on Topix defending Islam and its rapists proves exactly why the left must be opposed at every turn and defeated.

I have never defended Islam. I have defended people's right to practice Islam in the US and have criticized wingnut ignorance about it. You aren't bright enough to recognize the distinction.
Hmmmm

You "defend" the peoples right to practice Islam...OK

The folks hanging the teenagers for being gay ARE PRACTICING Islam

The folks stoning women for adultery ARE PRACTICING Islam

etc. etc. etc.

Apparently YOU are not bright enough to realize what you defend.

No they aren't. "They" are committing crimes. When is the last time a woman in the United States was stoned for committing adultery or a teenager hanged for being gay?

Actually, you're probably right.

They would probably blame the insane religious zealot perpetrator, regardless of his or her religious affiliation, and that would be quite appropriate.

An interesting look at Sweden's rape rate and nary a mention of Islam.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19592372
It sounds counter-intuitive to the point of sounding dreadfully offensive, but Sweden's high rate of rape reporting is one of the most radically pro-woman developments I've seen. The scope of what constitutes rape and sexual assault covers a range of violations that aren't addressed, for example, in US law. They've been on the right side of sexual assault classification since the beginning, when they were one of the first nations to push martial rape laws. The incredible rate at which convictions are sought and returned has rapidly led to a state where reporting has increased with confidence in survivor's access to justice.

If you want to see something progressive and beautiful, look at Sweden's sexual assault laws and culture. If you want to see something radical, progressive and beautiful, look to the way these laws extend to sex workers.

The thing that rather confuses me is that the actual rate of sexual assault in Sweden continues to mirror the actual surveyed rates in other developed nations, while their reporting rate far outpaces them. I've never been sure if this matched rate mirrors the higher expectation of a life free of sexual crime in Sweden (those reporting to both surveys reported in crime statistics would be more prone to identify violations as assaults) or if higher reporting really doesn't much move criminal acts.

I'm not suggesting that they don't have more work to do, both in terms of promoting clear and prompt survivor reporting and in curbing actual assaults. But it seems wonderfully disingenuous to try and twist incredible leaps forward in prompting reporting to try and reflect a crime wave, especially for some sort of confused xenophobic purpose.

I think others have already put forward countries with deceptively low rates of rape, due to the lack of confidence for survivors' path to justice. It seems silly to reject these examples while clinging to this data set which mirrors the very opposite trend.

I should also state that Swedish sexual assault laws and the culture surrounding them shouldn't be viewed as a uniquely feminist movement. Sweden's definition of rape and sexual assault allow men and boys a much wider range of access to press charges like rape which are confusingly and offensively barred from them in other first world nations.

You mean those who commit those vile crimes at a rate lower either Protestant ministers and public school teachers?
