Wow, this sucks! East Broad Street is very dark there. If someone was wearing dark clothes you wouldn't see them until it was too late. RIP

Wow, whacked by at least six vehicles. Bob Juniper must be seeing pink right now.

Bob says: Remember, drive like you have a coffee cup sitting on your dashboard.

Knowing the population of the area, I wouldn't be surprised if someone darted out in traffic when they shouldn't have.

Is the area known for "darters"?

Yep. It has happened to me on numerous occasions over by Broad and Noe Bixby--at night, when you can't see them. I would hate to damage my car some evening.

I just wanted to brag that my instincts on this were pretty close. Here's what the Dispatch said:

==========

Columbus police have identified a pedestrian struck and killed on Tuesday night on the East Side.

Martin J. Barnes, 49, WAS WALKING IN THE ROADWAY on E. Broad Street east of Hamilton Road, police said, when he was struck at 9:15 p.m. by a taxi cab driven by Steven S. Henry, 26, of Pickerington.

It is possible that Barnes was then hit by several other vehicles, police said.

Police have not filed charges in the crash, which remains under investigation. Investigators said they donít know why Barnes WAS IN THE ROAD.

I know why Barnes was in the road!!! The inability to use crosswalks, sidewalks and otherwise pay attention to traffic signals is endemic to the population out there!!!!

There are no crosswalks or sidewalks there. With all the rain Barnes likely was trying to avoid the huge puddle that forms on the shoulder and road where he was struck.

You have to admit that the population out there regularly walks out into the street without regard to traffic.

Yes they do, at their own peril. The speed limit is 50 and I've been passed like I was standing still many times. Anybody dressed in dark clothing on that unlit stretch of East Broad had better hug the guard rail unless they have a death wish. Crossing Broad there is just asking to be killed.

Was the dumb ass walking in the road worth enough to cover damages to the cab? I will give 20 to 1 odds he wasn't worth more than 100 bucks

Ya know, the typical obama supporters would cap him for .46 cent. And somebody close to him will use his multiple SSNs and assume his disability ID. Dag

Ironically, he was previously convicted of aggravated vehicular assault. He was run over by karma.
I love a happy ending.
