The extended warranty is a very large money maker for the stores. If it was not, they wouldn't offer them. It's really not in the interest of any store to worry about your purchase lasting longer than the advertised warranty. They are simply worried more about making profit. IF the extention was not a big money maker, they would not exist. It's proven that a very small percentage of extended warranties are ever used.<quoted text>
Unless your product breaks one day after the manufacturer's warranty expires....
While I would agree with you it would be stupid on an item such as an iron or coffee maker, when you get into the thousands of dollars range, it makes a little more sense. Especially on electronics (not computers). Major appliances probably have adequate standard warranties.
You might have a credit card that doubles manufacturer warranties for no extra cost... this could be worth it if you can pay off the card in a reasonable amount of time (before the interest paid is more than the cost of a new item).

Same experience with Tire Discounters. I had a pickup in front of me drop its spare tire holder and it ruined one tire with about 10,000 miles on the set. They replaced the tire with a new one no problems. Even realigned it no charge.
