It's not funny that I mention Rush--that is what this discussion was about.
Johnson offered as an example of an unfounded conspiracy theory that Limbaugh was a gay drug addict. I said he was off-base, as at leasst 50% of that is pretty widely accepted fact. I offer no opinion as to his sexuality.
George objected to referring to Mr. Limbaugh as an addict.
Many in the recovery community as well as addiction specialists make a distinction between being abstinent and being sober. However the important distinction is whether one who has once behaved addictively can ever become a "casual" user of substances.
There have certainly been some really classic tragedies associated with a belief that one can give up heroin, but still drink beer on the weekends, or treat one's alcoholism by just giving up hard liquor.
Most folks in recovery will tell anyone--if it works for you, go ahead, it's your life. But for anyone who admits they cannot just control their urges, there is help.

Any military person has more credibility to me then our pathological Liar in Chief, especially a Lt. Col. I really don't care if you believe it or not, because even if it were true, you wouldn't care. You'll vote for him for a third term if it's possible, and their working on the legislation.

New York congressman introduces bill to abolish presidential term limits
New York Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano reintroduced a bill in Congress on Friday to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which places term limits on the U.S. presidency.
The bill, which has been referred to committee, would allow Barack President Obama to become the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to seek a third term in office.
H.J. Res. 15 proposes “an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.”

Passage is impossible, I agree. But there are other ways to stay in power, which leads me to repeat: Where is General Carter Ham? Where is Admiral Charles Gaouette?
That guy has been introducing that bill since 1997, Chicken Little.

Modern family progressive style....hmmmmm

does that mean an inter racial same sex couple, who adopt opposite sex children to teach family values?

or a single mother who is on assistance getting pregnant and can't remember how? She does realize that her monthly check just went up and for 18 years.

When I grew up it was re-runs of leave it to beaver; and that honestly was how things were where I grew up.

This modern family was taught as against God's will; and would have been recognized by all as complete lunacy.

If you are the end product of the pre-modern family then it is clearly time to move forward.

Just wait til those nutballs see the Clinton/Clinton ticket in 2016 and start reading the 22nd Amendment really closely.

That's when the fun would truly begin.

When you grew up there were no black people, interracial couples or people who were gay?

No public assistance and no adoptions?

Goodness, where was that?

I'll bet you believe that there was also no child abuse, no wife-beating, no incest and only guilty people were ever charged with crimes, eh?

I actually grew up in proximity to Carter Ham.

His family went to my church. He had an older sister in my brother's grade who was endlessly grateful that her parents thought better of naming her Virginia.

Why don't you ask Slick, himself?

Letterman: Now there was a discussion last week, and there is I guess a greater discussion, and there's some confusion, and maybe I'm the only one confused about the eligibility of a man who has been elected twice as President to possibly be named later on the ticket as Vice President. Constitutionally speaking, can that happen?"

Clinton: I don't believe so. There are some people who believe it can, and they have contorted readings of the amendment, the 22nd Amendment. But I believe as a matter of general interpretation, you're supposed to read all the Constitution including all the Amendments as if they were written almost on the same day at the same moment, so they're consistent with one another. And the Constitution says the qualifications for Vice President are the same as those for President. Now you can read that to mean 'to serve,' not 'to run for.' But I just don't believe it's consistent with the spirit of the Constitution for someone who's been President twice to be elected Vice President. I just don't think it's Constitutional. I don't think it's right and I wouldn't want to do that. I'd want to do whatever I could do to be of highest and best use for her, but there are lots of wonderful people out there, including all the people that are running this time would be good Vice Presidents. And, that's just not in the cards.

I disagree. The 22nd only prohibits a president from being ELECTED more than twice (once if he previously served more than two years of his predecessor's term).

And there is help for Topix addicts who can't (or won't) give up the urge to demonstrate their allusions of superiority...

It's called toss that computer out the window and observe a bit of mental silence, Reader.

"Controlling" your urges has a huge component of self-awareness and conscious behavior... bit hint there. Physical addictions occur, but they can be addressed. It's after the physical/chemical problems are addressed that people refuse to (or too afraid to) address the behavioral component. Abstinence is an unusual word in your vocabulary, no? Can't use abstinence in a sexual context...now you apply it in an addictive context?
