He has permitted his animals to trespass upon land that doesn't belong to him. Knowing full well that the rightful owner was planning to round up his property and seize it, he formed an armed posse in an attempt to stop that from happening. The posse he gathered up to assist him purposefully threatened to take up arms against the folks sent in by the rightful landowner, and also purposefully placed women at the front of that confrontation, using them as human shields.

He wasn't "accosted over a "supposed monetary issue"". He deliberately created a dangerous situation in response to three separate judgments rendered against him in courts of law, falsely alleging that the US government and Court have no jurisdiction over the issue.

If and/or when someone dies or gets injured as a result, that blood will be on his hands.

They could simply have put a lien on his property. The IRS does it to people all the time.

Beneath this clownish theater, there are some serious points. One is that Westerners have long and understandably chafed at federal ownership of so much land in the West, including more than 80% of Nevada.

But Bundy's claim of title is simply wrong. Nevada and other states specifically ceded any claim to the land when they joined the union. They even wrote that fact into their constitutions. Further undermining Bundy's case, the U.S. Constitution's Property Clause gives Congress authority over national territory. The Supreme Court has upheld that power as "without limitation."

It's not hard to understand the frustration of a cattle rancher who is told as Bundy was that he can no longer run his cattle on federal grazing land because of harm to the protected desert tortoise. That decision deserves re-evaluation. But not at the point of a gun.

The government obviously cannot let Bundy declare that he is above the law without inviting everyone else to do the same.

Tortoises and armed mobs aside, he eventually must be compelled to pay his bills.

"His" ranch is held in a trust. I doubt that his cattle business is held by or operates under the same trust.

You can look up the property records at the Clark County website for yourself.

Looking at the two appellate opinions, the recent one and the one from 1998, the trust was not named as a defendant in either case.
