“Larchmont's Leading Citizen” Since: Dec 12

After the United States Postal Service announced that it intends to stop delivering mail on Saturdays in an effort to cut costs beginning this August, many praised it as a relatively straightforward way to save roughly $2 billion a year.
Some lamented the inconvenience of the change and others were alarmed at what that means for post office employees. Not many, though, tied the matter to race or gender. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) was apparently one of them. He explained on MSNBC: “You’re talking about just this reduction … from six days to five days, will cut anywhere from 25,000 to 30,000 employees. And with regard to Asian, African-Americans, and Hispanics, they comprise about 40 percent of the Postal Service employees. So it’s logical to believe if they were to lose that 30,000 jobs, easily 40 percent of them would be African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asian-Americans.” According to The Hill, Cummings proceeded to point out that over 40 percent of the post office’s employees are also women: “So you have a lot of women, many of whom are single women — head of household, and they depend upon that decent wage, decent working conditions and benefits to take care of their families.” But Cummings’ bottom line is that stopping Saturday mail delivery is harmful for the nation at large. “So, yes, it would have a devastating effect in an economy that is already very, very fragile,” he concluded. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/02/09/wh... |

Day late, dollar short. I said this would happen last week, as its an admitted statistic that the public sector is more non-white than the general population.

Elijah Cummings is also the guy that did the most to defend Eric Holder as the victim of a racist witch hunt during the hearings.

Judged: 2 Why does he not simply bemoan the loss of jobs by ALL postal employees? Why does he play identity politics? Is that what Dr. King stood for? Elijah Cummings is a racist, he always has been during his career. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Dr. King started the bus boycott in Montgomery mainly to force the city to hire blacks as bus drivers. He's arguably the founder of identity politics in this country. |

uh, why would he say that, did the nazis call themselves racist? Did the confederate army say slavery was racist? That may be how you determine how something is racist or not but I don't base it on that. |
I thought facts couldn't be racist. Weren't you lecturing others recently that facts aren't racist? Or is that only when you are stating what you believe to be facts? |

Judged: 2 2 2 I am so sorry you are upset by this. Maybe you should talk to Rep. Cummings personally. |
|
|
Judged: 3 2 2 I would argue that when the Founders decided to enslave people of a certain race and to count blacks as 3/5 of a person in the constitution, they were became the founders of identity politics in this country. |

Blacks were the vast majority of the enslaved, but not the only people enslaved in the nation's history. The slaveholding states in the South, wanted slaves to count as 1 person. The anti-slavery states in the North, wanted slaves to be not counted as people at all. 3/5ths was the compromise. The idea that it was somehow an eeevil plot of racism doesn't make any sense. |

So Johnson, you approve of racism. How nice. |

Perhaps if we returned to that standard we might see some sanity in this country. How does that grab you? |

Is it not also a fact that white men work at the Post Office and will be impacted as well? You really do have Reader Syndrome. |

In fact, it was to prevent slaveholders from having the political power to impose slavery into perpetuity. But, students of the U.S. public school system would never know that salient fact. |
