The problem is that "we" don't get a vote on whether to pay them more or not. They vote on their own raises. Wouldn't it be nice if we all could?
I've heard these SOB stories before how our representatives can't afford two homes. As you pointed out, not only were they aware of this before running for office, but I've yet to read a story about any politician buying a winnebago.
All these cats retire millionaires. They have lifelong benefits such as healthcare and retirement on top of the insider trading they engaged in while holding office. None of them are worried about paying their electric bill, their gas bill, their water bill, losing their healthcare insurance. So when somebody even hints that life is too hard on $180,000 per year, how can any regular people take such a comment seriously?

Medicaid? No, I make too much to apply for Medicaid. But since you like the subject so much, let's discuss it:
Medicad is a government system that provides free medical care although rated the worst. What new Medicaid applicants don't understand is that they will not only receive substandard care, but they will have to pay for it in the end.
DumBama and the other Socialists finally found a way for government to confiscate more private property. When a property owner who used Medicaid passes away, the government has first dibs on their property. They can't pass that property to their heirs. Of course, government keeps that little secret hidden. So DumBama and the Socialists expanded the eligibility for coverage.
Thanks to Commie Care and the Democrats, Medicaid is not a program for people that have absolutely nothing anymore. It's a program that applies to the working poor and the lower middle-class.
That's right, no FOX News stories.

Yep, They retire millionaires because of some of the very specific reasons that I mentioned. MONEY talks & BS walks. Mst of them are whores, they get paid, they perform!! Kissing butt, sucking @#9^! or whatever. They give reason for term limits every election.
The founding fathers would be starting a new revolution in a heart beat today. DOWN with George the 3rd today just like 200 + yrs ago. OUR war of Independence AND the War of 1812.
Geo III was the cause & motivation of much of the Constitution & people seem to ignore that FACT.
Now we have a new King George in Washington DC & the House TODAY.

Yeah, most of the folks now in Congress are millionaires. But there are some poor ones, too:
I think it's a shame that you have to be rich to run for office. Increasing Congressional pay would allow the non-rich to serve without going into debt. And it might make them more resistant to those that would offer them bribes for favorable legislation.
But I don't think that will happen. The wealthy are quite happy with the status quo.
#27664 Apr 10, 2014
That's only for longterm care and it sounds exactly the same as the provision for Medicare. My God, you don't understand any of this.
Since you make too much to qualify for Medicaid, you should be able to find on the exchange a good policy that you can afford. Your demonstrate lack of knowledge and belief in boogeymen combined with your conflicting and questionable personal accounts indicate you are much more interested in complaining about the President than you are about getting health insurance.

You do realize that if the "Founding Fathers" would have had the right to vote, they would have exercised that instead of going to war? You can't even seem to elect representatives that you approve of and you think you would be capable of executing a war.

So you were in a coma the entire time Bush was in office? Look it up yourself, you lazy, weak willed Tea Bagger. Perhaps if you would have paid just a little more attention to Bush lying to Congress and pissing on our Constitution back then, someone would take you serious when you cry about Obama lying to you and scuffing up your sudden "Constitutionalist" views.
The fact that you even question whether Bush lied to Congress and then act like no one else believes that shows just how freaking stupid you really are. Keep your retarded views the hell out of American politics because you have reached a whole new level of out of touch Tea Bagger on that one.
Now remind us again...you spineless addict and anchor tied to the necks of responsible Americans for decades. How many THOUSANDS of American soldiers died because Obama misspoke about poor people getting health care? Now how many THOUSANDS of our soldiers died because Bush obviously lied to Congress so Halliburton could rake in billions? Thousands and thousands of troops needlessly died in Iraq while you sat ever so quiet about it. Now you want to cry about what Obama does? Save your slop hole drama queen bullsh1t for the bleary eyed Tea Bagging flock. Us folks that went to College instead of driving trucks and sucking on cancer sticks don't buy it.

You really need to re-read those articles and find a cure for your pi#spoor reading comprehension. You're pathetic. Did you even click on any links or pay any attention to the enactment dates? I didn't now Obama was so cozy with ALEC. But yet again it's his fault for decades old legislation. Only in that pea-sized brain of yours.

"For troops in the U.S.-led multinational coalition, the death toll is carefully tracked and updated daily, and the names and photographs of those killed in action as well as in accidents have been published widely. A total of 4,486 U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq between 2003 and 2012."
Of course, that pales besides the 120,000+ Iraqi civilians which were killed in that misguided war.

Preaching to the choir but facts are always welcome.

I had to get my Grandmother moved into a nursing home and signed up for Medicaid. She had given me money for taking care of her for 15 years. She was 95 and had no other family near her. Although, legally I could have kept the money, for her to be eligible for Medicaid, she had to have nothing, including anything she may had gifted going back five years. I used the money to prepay her nursing home so she would be eligible so she would have absolutely nothing...so...ummm

These representatives get wealthy by inside trader information, at least that's one way.
What happens to these retired politicians? The become "consultants" for companies that benefited from the way they voted while in office. These "consultants" are valuable to a company because they have good friends that are still in Congress.
So you leave a government job that paid $180,000 per year to become a consultant at a private firm making $300,000 per year. Tough job, but somebody has to do it.
#27673 Apr 10, 2014
How would increased congressional pay allow the non-rich to serve? I don't follow you at all on that one.
From the beginning, serving the US government was supposed to be similar to serving in the military. You do your duty, then go home and resume your normal life. It wasn't supposed to be a career and certainly not a lucrative one.
I'm sure there are plenty of non-wealthy people that made it to Congress or the Senate. Our very own George Voinovich is living proof of that. He was nothing more than your average Cleveland boy who worked many other government jobs on his way up to Senator. Like Kookcinich, it was more name recognition than it was money.
Our government is loaded with lawyers that ran for office because they were trading up, not down. Very few would work so hard to get a job that paid less in the long run.

That's so ridiculous. How does government or anybody else for that matter able to determine what a person is or is not capable of affording? Does government know what my bills are? Does government know what monthly expenditures are? No. They just figure since you make X amount of money, you should be able to spend it the way they want you to, no questions asked.
If a person making let's say $34,000 per year purchased a home years ago where his or her mortgage is $1,000 per month, does the government take that into consideration? How about a person that has a $350.00 per month car payment on top of that?
What the government figures is that you make X amount of money, so you should be able to afford healthcare insurance that you once had through your employer because you have nothing better to do with your life but work for healthcare insurance. So sell your house. Sell your car or boat. File for bankruptcy so you don't have to pay any other bills but your new overpriced healthcare premium.

Thank Obama that it includes MENTAL HEALTH care, you really need it.
#27676 Apr 10, 2014
Kind of like those "had been" idiots that go straight to FALSE NEWS. Doe's that Cheney woman's name ring a bell, by any chance? Probably not, to you.
#27677 Apr 10, 2014
You don't know anything about how the ACA or the Healthcare marketplace works, do you? Be honest, did you go to the website and apply?

They did have votes for 'colonial representatives' that were so 'watered down' when dealing with the Empirical Monarchy that it was like no vote at all during the reign of George III. The proof is in part the War of 1812 many years later.
So I can understand your question about them not having votes in the colonial times but the War of 1812 is proof that when the U.S. was by international treaty a sovereign nation, it still didn't matter.
Do you not see a relationship in ANY of the first 11 Amendments to the actions & relationship with George III ?
All of them are about individual & sovereign rights. EVERYONE of them. Protection against tyranny, protection for lawful due process , true representation (that we don't really have now) the riddance of a monarchy & more.
As far as me not seeming to elect reps that I approve of means no more or no less than I was in the minority of voters.
