Just curious but, how solid are one's morals when one's moral compass -one's long-embraced position on an issue of this magnitude- can be flipped just because a member of that person's family embraces such a controversial lifestyle? Portman's "Change of heart" on an issue he previously declared was "Sacred" is very disgraceful, just like Obama changing his moral compass on the issue by, as he purports, having a converstion with his young daughters.

Portman, in his editorial, affirms people with a "lifetime committment" should have access to marriage, a fallable arguement which becomes the basis for a slippery slope. What other exemplars of "alternative lifestyles" who declare a "lifetime committment" should we then grant or deny the title of marriage to? A mom and an adult son? Adult son and his grandma? A man simultaneously committed to four women? No logical stopping point.

The thinly-veilled moral of this story is, if you have anyone close to you who's gay, you must support gay marriage, and, if you're a conservative, you had really ought to back your elected officials that also subscribe to this.

Portman has sold his soul to those who, like their Marxist prophet, have vowed to abolish the traditional family and the moral order to recast society in their own freewheeling, morally-optional image, with gay marriage as the means to that end. Portman cares not of this, he cares about the fickle pressure from this aggressive lobby, who exert degrees of control over the Mainstream Media, large Corporations, and by extension, whoring Politicians.

Let me explain something, Senator Portman. There exists an omniprescent, oppressive, invasive, abusive, obtrusive, and staggeringly-funded cultural juggenaut which has the Cultural and Political landscape in the stranglehold of it's serpentine coils. It is called the gay lobby, a malicious political movement which has little to do with most everyday homosexuals; a feverishly-driven, Fascist takeover machine that is steamrolling over the Constitution and America's moral legacy, leaving in it's wake nothing but scorched earth. You just sold out to these people, buddy. See you on election day. Or not.

His opinion doesn't really matter at this point. The Supreme Court likely has the five votes to OK same sex marriage.

It also indicates he probably won't be running for President in 2016.

People who think they are gay need to go to counseling to get straightened out. Portman is psychotic, just like other gay wads. Being gay is a life choice just like choosing to be a criminal.

What's great, is the GOP is becoming so extreme and so marginalized that in another few years, all that will be left are the 28% of you dead enders. You are going to run anyone with the slighest bit of moderation out of your party. It's your party that is toast, bro.

LMFAO when I saw this story in the early AM. Another politician that "represents" his constituents to get elected and then quickly changes views when it affects his personal life. Aren't our elected officials supposed to represent the people? Hilarious!!!!

Exactly. The "morality" of the GOP is a mile wide and an inch deep. They have no problem shitting on the rights of other people. But when the discrimination hits home, all of the sudden they have a "come to Jesus" moment and realize the error of their ways.

Che, you are a statist, the only rights you care about is your right to as much hedonism as possible, having you complain about "rights" is quite hilarious.

Now, see I am a bit different than the GOP, I run by realpolitik, if my rights are infringed by a certain D Senator from California, I accept that as part of the game, just as I would do the same in reverse.

The GOP nominated McCain in 2008, John Kerry considered him for VP.

The GOP nominated Romney in 2012, he is the grandfather of the Obama health care plan.

The GOP isn't run by extremists, take it from an actual extremist.

1) You aren't a member of the GOP, so you don't count.

2) Look at the results of primaries when Teabaggers are running. For the most part, the Teabagger beats the GOP incumbent, and then loses the general. Don't kid yourself who is driving that party.

I agree. Portman's logic could just as well justify polygamy (or even bestiality). Gay Males live on average 20 years less, so Portman should urge his son to leave a lifestyle that includes likely exposure to AIDS.
