Agreed. Exactly. The definition of rape per the ORC:

Clear cut. MSNBC should shut down the Ed Show for that crap.
He's been demoted to only on the weekends.

Too much of an "authentic blue collar white" for MSLSD.

Two hours of Rachel Madcow instead (ever seen Chris Hayes and Madcow at the same time, I haven't)

The hilljacks who live up there have created a culture that permits the kids on that football team to run the town. Juveniles? If they're old enough to have drinking parties and parents permit it, then screw the fact they're "under age." What they did was reprehensible. Those kids are now labeled sexual offenders for life, and have to register as such.
Looks like some contradictions there, "if they're old enough to have drinking parties and parents permit it..."

The reality is that they are NOT old enough to have drinking parties (according to the law), regardless of parental approval. And if parents were approving (and odds are they were either approving or clueless), that shifts some weight of responsibility onto the negligence of adults. And in this particular case--from what I hear--the adult participation in creating/allowing the environment has been pretty massive.

Minors should not be given the opportunity to completely ruin their lives. These guys are going into lock-up for a minimum of a year to a max of until they reach age 21. And they will have to register as sex offenders (and all that means) for the rest of their lives. There are adults who don't get that much for similar crimes.

Irony? Have you heard of that? The parents ALLOWED THAT! If the parents felt the kids could do that, then the parents ought to let them be adult, "man enough," to be able to deal with the consequences of their stupid, vile, uncivil behaviors. I don't see it contradictory to hold their parents' feet to the fire in regard to their p!$$ poor thinking -- "oh my, Johnny's being picked on" after THEY enabled that behavior! If Johnny's "man" enough due drink and carouse all night long at the age of 16, then he's "man enough" to withstand charges of rape and his punishment. Wah all the way around to that tune.

Rape is rape is rape. There was clear cut, vile, disgusting evidence. Maybe this will send a clear-cut message to rapists, too. And hopefully smack this community back into thinking that if you treat hormonally challenged 16 and 17 year old boys as gods you get a lot of problems. That community let those boys ride roughshod over the entire community, too.

And most adults who get busted as clearly as these kids had usually get sex offender status for life.

I would have thought that you as a feminist would have stood up against the sexual abuse of a defenseless young girl. For shame, Reader...

My bad. That was uncalled for.
The whole episode was outrageous! That could have been MY daughter... iff it were, I would hope I could get on Topix in prison! I am serious!
Peace.
Yes, Boom, that was uncalled for.

You may have noticed that in at least two threads today George has announced what I believe without bothering to consult me.

And he generally gets it wrong. Probably because he can only see a binary world--divided into black and white (and I'm not speaking of race here).

Do you think this is some crude attempt at flirting with me?

This isn't an either/or situation.

Supporting the maximum juvie sentence (coupled with that life-long registration requirement) is hardly refusing to stand up against sexual assault.

Thanks for the information, me being out of state.

But they'll tell any future employers, etc. they were 18 and slept with their 17 year old girlfriend.

Any chance they'll go so far as to charge the parents, providing there is proof they suppplied alcohols to minors?

This case is so sad. And more proof just how much the morality of the country has sunk. Cable stations offer sympathy to the offenders.

I think you are confusing him with Yost.

The other executives rarely appear in the media. Taylor has said a few things to the right of the Kasich position (Medicaid), Husted only appears during the election and the cries of "racist" not far behind, and Mandel has been in hiding since November.

DeWine gets some more airplay, but he doesn't seem to be making much policy difference with Kasich.

FWIW, its better than Dann, and Fisher v Brunner 2010

They committed an adult crime, acting as adults. There has always been leeway in the law to try older adolescents as adults. Period. This wasn't a consensual situation where daddy busts his 16 YO daughter having sex with her 18 YO boyfriend. There was clear disregard for the victim, she was viewed and treated as if she were an object without compassion. The perps clearly displayed a cold lack of any moral compass, as if they believed they could get away with anything.

They should have been charged as adults and sent to a state prison. Other heads should roll for participating in the attempted white washing of what these two monsters did. And how about those who stood by and let it happen?

I would not have.

Don't know regarding the charging parents. State law here could support that. Parents have been charged before, but it's generally a minor offense per ORC:

Ohio Revised Code 4301.69. Penalty section is ORC 4301.99. The penalty is a fine of no less than $500 and no more than $1,000, and not more than six months in jail.

This case really turned my stomach. I know I'll get flamed for this, but some parents really need to not only have their heads examined, but ought to be examined for fitness to parent if they can't stand up to their kids and tell them "no, you are NOT going to go drinking as a teenager" and can't teach them to respect for others. Simply because they had state champ football team? Puhleease.

Recall the criminal activity by those OSU players under Tressel.

Stupidville is a dumber version of that.

Can they be charged for having the party even though they were not present/did not know?

Dumber, lower class, inbred...the kind of place where the parents think college is for football or basketball only; if your kid went on an academic scholarship, they were "too good" for the town..."if working in the mill was good enough for Dad, Uncle Tony and Grandpa Vito, it's good enough for you..." crap.

They'll be put in juvenile detention, most likely, and mommy and dday and fans wil be sending them cards, letters and money.
They ruined more than one life.
I don't know how anyone can have an ounce of sympathy for either of them.

Nothing wrong with working there, but plenty wrong with thinking that the Chinamen won't throw you out of work thanks to the unions.
