Nah. They were social movers/shakers/influencers. Seriously. Kind of snooty but were ok. More like the swanky cocktail parties and fundraiser types. I think his dad was a doctor, but could be not remembering that right. I never understood how he got involved with Frankie. She always seemed odd to me, very odd, like not all marbles upstairs odd.

Not in northwest Ohio. Those would have been Mexicans in the fields, pickin maters and sugar beets.

You are as clueless as they come. Che giving you lessons tonight, Dukie? I was referring to the Westmoreland/Old Orchard neighborhoods/UToledo region of Toledo. They don't have farms in the area I'm referring to...no sugar beets, especially. Corn and maters out in Fulton County. You really have no clue about NW Ohio, do ya, so ya go for the easy smackdowns, right?

I wasn't responding to you cupcake.

And if you don't know what I am referring to, then perhaps you are younger than I am.

Tomatoes, soybeans, and sugar beets kept many a Mexican immigrant family employed in Ottawa and Sandusky Counties back in the day. Every fall, Port Clinton smelled like tomatoes from the canning factory three blocks from my parents' home.

I know exactly where Old Orchard is. My older sis lives on Barrington...has for decades...before that, she on Goddard.

I wasn't talking about that.

Not so fast, pardner. My old hood was in that same vicinity. Know Gesu Church, Ottawa Park, the skating rink and Calvary Cemetery? In fact, if my recollection is right, Coleman's dad had a doctor's office on Bancroft, but closer into downtown off Monroe near the Old West End and Art Museum. And you were going for the potshot inferring some racist bs that wasn't there. That's what I was talking about. Connect the dots. Coleman has been a well-polished upper crust politico all these years. The Westmoreland area where I think he grew up, is just beyond Old Orchard down Bancroft. Westmoreland is an older, well-established, well-to-do neighborhood (it's about the same age as Old Orchard--OO was the upper class "Jewish" hood back in the day, Westmoreland was the "immigrant white" and "black" upper class hood back in the day).... not what it once was, that area is getting shabby, but still it was one of the hotspots in real estate up there 50 years ago and his parents had the money, resources, and ability to raise him in some pretty privileged circumstances. That was my point.

And many farms that used more migrant labor were/still are actually west and south of town, not east. More land out that way. Fulton County, they trucked them in by the hundreds and no one noticed because Chavez's folks were making too big of a ruckus out east LOL in the 60s. All the eyes focused east, due to the media storm.

Yes, was aware of the farms east of town as well. Spent many a happy day in cabins and boats on the lake, within Sandusky Bay, happily munchin' walleye afterward, washed down with cold beer. You however made potshots that were well, pretty much off target and pointless.

See, no one ever forgets home! But dayum, why do you always need it spelled out?

All I said was that the Mexicans were pickin maters and beets in Ottawa and Sandusky Counties before you were pushin a pencil.

Shyyyyt! You remind me of the white girls ( you're no girl) that lived in the Bottoms on the westside, back in the 70's. They was street wise, a little tomish ( not afraid to break a nail or get dirt on their sneakers) could fish, fight, and fμ|<. They had names like Brenda, Tammy, Joleen, Chyann. Two or three of 'em would beat a drunk with broom handles if he ran out the back door of the store with their beer money, instead of bringing them the Bush or Pabst beer around the corner. You've fit right in with them back then. If one of 'em gave a brotha a little bootay (which was rarely done unless they thought you were so cute) she'd make you promise to never tell anyone, not even her friends, or she'll deny it or say you made her do it.

I guarantee I am female. I did not grow up in Columbus, and my name is nowhere near that. Being Catholic, I was given a female saint's name. Two as a matter of fact, following a specific Polish tradition. And I do happen to have a blue collar background, but the schools in Toledo have a specific split to this day: either you went through the Catholic schools, most of which are single sex or you died mentally in the public schools. Any parents with a semblance of concern put their kids through the Catholic schools. I went to one of the female counterparts of Coleman's prep school, and knew a number of kids there as did my sisters...

Now, I wouldn't touch a PBR or cheap beer to save my soul. A few on this board will vouch for that. Has to be a Killians or better, preferably a microbrew. I prefer however a Zinfandel or Cabernet.

I simply gave you my observations. You see, I grew up in that area I mentioned. I observed wisely and well. My occupation does depend, in part, on my observation skills. I have never said Mike Coleman was a fool or stupid. In fact, he is quite the opposite. But he always did remind me of a pampered pansy boy from the background I know of him. As a kid, he was quite the spoiled brat...

Why does this always boil down to women you're attracted to, WA?

Anything is better than a Killian's. On that note, I'm guzzling a Peroni as we speak.

Nah. I do like my red ales. When I was in Cali last summer, found some from a place called Stone Brewery--very nice. Enjoyed some pumpkin ale not long ago.

Where in my posts did I say a word about the people picking maters in NW Ohio forty five years ago being "illegal" immigrants?

And what do you have against tomatoes?
