How do you explain a 4 year old who is a maestro? Or children who can sing perfect opera at a young age? How do you explain NDE's, found in almost all people who have died and come back - religious or not? How do you explain being intensely familiar with a neighborhood you've never been in before, or a person who you are sure you know but you're just now meeting for the first time? The fact of the matter is, you don't know any more than any one else does and yes, you strike me as melancholy and not happy.
1. Talent and ability to access things within himself we don't.
2. NDE are the firing of electrodes and other brain functions that continues to work even after the physical body has shut down.
3. Deja vu is interesting, but I chalk it up to a feeling of comfort with what is going on.

I never once claimed to have all the answers. But I am 98.99% positive we won't find those answers in religion.

The only side of me you "know" is through these words. My life outside this topix forum is quite different and quite fulfilling. Don't feign any interest or concern for me, because you only use it as a way to purport some agenda of yours.

You just admitted that you have a closed mind. You are intolerant and are adamant in justifying yourself. You don't have the "answers" same as any other human.

Never claimed to. I also believe I said I was 99.98% sure there is no existence of this higher being. That leaves a small percentage of possibility that I'm willing to consider.

Excuse me, 98.99%...either way, I'm confident in my beliefs (or lack thereof). I'm certainly not any more close minded than anyone who believe in god and is adamant that such a thing exists.

But you certainly want to try your damnedest to prove you are right while insulting anyone who does not agree with you as much as possible.

Mmmm...nope. If you had any idea on how this topic originated, you would know that it was based on someone else insisting they were able to decide who and who isn't a Christian. As for insults, that road goes both ways. Pick and choose if you like, but the fact of the matter is that there isn't one single person who gets on Topix and doesn't insult someone else.

If you are a Christian, then you are what I am now calling a CINO, Christian In Name Only, because you are being judgemental, in direct contradiction of your faith, and thus being yet another hypocritical Christian. Your comments also border on persecution, what's up with that?

I don't remember mentioning one way or another if I were Christian.

Persecution? Now that's funny. I pointed out the judgemental hypocrisy. What is one man's myth is another man's belief system. I didn't come here to explain why anyone's faith or spiritual beliefs were nonsense or not. I saw no respect from the poster whatsoever. NONE. Only haughtiness. Fact is, you cannot prove a negative--there is no God--she has really only stated she has a lack of evidence and based on that she calls the other posters basically stupid and believing in myths? The positive has been so far impossible to solve, but that does not mean God does not exist. Proving a negative is a false argument, it cannot be done. I'd like to know how my responses were "persecution." She was just as judgemental as those she is throwing stones at.

I don't read her the same way you do. I think she's looked at evidence as she sees it and has come up with her conclusion. Your responses are pretty typical of so-called Christians I have had discussions with, if you are not Christian, you sure act like the ones I have crossed with. Mind you, there are plenty of Christians who believe but don't preach or harass.

Most atheists just want to be left alone and not have this Christianity shoved into their faces every day. Those same so-called Christians go on and on about war against them, when it is atheists and non-Christians who are brow-beaten on a daily basis. So if we get a little testy, that's why.

BTW, since she is an atheist, there is no rule for her (or me) about being judgemental. We are not being hypocritical about being judgemental, but CINOs are.

Then why does she preach so? Wouldn't it be wrong for anyone to be hypocritical? My dictionary defines it as "professing feelings or virtues one does not have; "hypocritical praise".

What I do not see is an admission that all humans are flawed--you, me, her, etc. Atheists are not above that rule. Ever meet a perfect human being? Me neither. Free speech, and if you don't like what's being said, fine. Just keep in mind that free speech applies to all. Being testy is no reason for getting on the same soap box you feel others to be on. Period. Soap box will crumble eventually, don't break an ankle sort of thing. And yes, using this logic it is hypocritical to even say "so-called Christians." Being Christian does not exempt one from being flawed and who are you or I or the original poster to judge?

Only when you are older will you understand. Or not. I hope so, though. And I have no agenda. If you will notice, I am quite critical of organized religion, as it is. I have no desire to save or convert anyone. I do, though, feel sorry for individuals who refuse to accept that there is much we can't explain, and don't even wonder what that might be. If you feel that's an agenda, I suppose you're allowed to do so.

And yes, you are seriously closed-minded. I've read some scientific articles disputing your claims about NDEs. I'll see if I can find them.

I read that there were tens of thousands of "brands" of Christianity worldwide. To which do you refer?

Dunno if it's still on there, but her Topix profile had a slam against Christianity. Seems to me like that's harassment, don't you think? I don't want anything shoved in my face, either, but I certainly don't look to antagonize someone and then cry that something is being shoved in my face.

It's still there on her profile:

"I Believe In:

Living for what is right and honorable. I do not need a book of myths to dictate my behavior or give me an excuse to further the agenda of hatred and intolerance as most Christians do."

That's called looking for an argument.

Then you must be new to Topix or at least to reading any of my posts. I have pointed out on numerous occasions that we're all hypocrites. The only difference that I see between me and some (not all) posters is that many accuse people of being this or that without seeing that they exhibit the same behavior. I'm a hypocrite because I'm human. Nor do I think I'm necessarily better than anyone, but I do think there are some people who don't try very hard to broaden their horizons or embrace people who are different from themselves. As for being an atheist, I may say there is no god because that is what I believe. It is no different than a believer saying there is a god - that's what they believe. Neither can be proven.

The bulk of what Kemo said is true. Atheists just want to be left alone. I'm not looking to convert anyone. But if someone proclaims they are a Christian and act in direct opposition to the overall philosophy of their religion, I have no problem pointing it out. It's not a judgement, it's reminding them that they've committed their lives to an idea that god is love and condemning people who aren't like they are is not what Jesus had in mind when he was nailed to a cross. I think atheists are largely misunderstood and more often pegged as a certain kind of person. I have wonderful Christian friends who have sat with me and asked me why I believe the way I do and they were very respectful and did not pass judgment. That is rare.

See? Another case of assumption of an atheist. I KNOW there is much that cannot or has not yet been explained. I think there is more out there that we don't know about than what we do. That doesn't mean I attribute it to some spiritual existence.

You don't know anything about me or who I am or what I do. You only read excerpts that I post and try to make an overall assumption about me. I'm used to people doing that. It makes them more comfortable that way, it seems. Unless you've been reading my every post, you probably don't even know how old I am. I don't need your condescension of "you'll understand when you're older." Don't presume to know anything about me or what I've already learned from life. It's that behavior that proves you're close-minded.
