You have it backwards. In your story, the US company is merely a vendor, a salesperson and an owner of production methods that already existed. In the case of oil, the US is the discoverer, the producer and the seller. Mitres have been around alot longer than the United States. Oil production has not. Huge difference, not that you'd know the difference.
If you do business in a foreign sovereign nation, you just might be rolling the dice. Hmmmm.
