Absolutely, they could be. Everything has a price.

There's no way the US government could even afford the price.

If you believe Venezuelan oil concessions were ever granted and valid in perpetuity, you obviously do not.

What about the United States?
Depends on who owns the land and mineral rights, offshore oil after 3 mile limit (10 for Texas due to it being a country in the past) is federal property and leased to the oil industry.

Enlighten us, dumbass. You think you know something about international relations, so let's see you give it your all.
Here are some hints: The Saudis wanted our military bases there. We didn't strong arm them. And on top of it, we don't demand that they respect the religious beliefs of our troops who are stationed there.
They didn't cooperate in the 9/11 investigations. They put us over a barrel in 1973 and 1979. And they got away with it. We sell them the same military hardware that Israel gets. The list goes on.
So, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you say about them bending to our will, Dukie.

Gomez did just that in 1922. Then the industry was nationalized in 1975.

If he used it for nationalizing the oil industry he'd better start by printing trillion dollar denominations.

Their government allows women to run for local government positions, that have no power.

Wait, you want an actual example?

I'll give you the leftist Zinn/Chomsky belief.

" If an independent Islamic country is thinking about acquiring other kinds of weaponry, then they will do their utmost to prevent it from acquiring them. Well, that is something that almost the entire world is discussing right now."

Rafsanjani - former President of Iran, and richest person

The Saudis don't have nukes and can't concentrate on killing Jews, to the left that means the "imperialists" are bending them to our will.

Are you saying that you personally have issues with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia asserting self governance that are somehow comparable to your criticism of Chavez in Venezuela?

I assumed you simply decry Chavez because he was a socialist.

I'm not sure I understand you today Paco. Maybe all of that hullabaloo in the den of homosexuality overseas has you all upset.

<quoted text>Now that's projection. Do you support our member ship in the United Nations? How about amnesty for illegals? Of course you do. Now, tell me how either of those positions is indicative of caring about American national sovereignty.
As for Venezuela, when a country steals the property of our citizens, as Chavez did with American oil company assets, that country becomes an enemy. Had they purchased those assets at a mutually agreed-upon price, that would have been a different story.
The overthrow of Chavez would have been in the best interests of the United States and her citizens. That's all that matters.
You have a really hard time figuring out how things works in a geo-political sense, Dukie.
So, clarify for me Paco. Are you calling for the overthrow of governments in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia as being in our Nation's best interests too?

There are other socialist leaders, nearly all of whom I, and presumably George, don't like either.

Chavez was noxious because he was bailing out Cuba, buddying up with Iran, and engaging in Blame Bush for all of his problems.

The current and former Presidents of Brazil are socialists as well, but they don't use naked Anti-Americanism to maintain power.

If they begin acting against our interests, yes.

The current Saudi king is about as "reformist" as we will get.

Removing the Iranian government or the North Korean government would be a better example, same with Cuba.

Well, I'm assuming you don't toil in a diplomatic field. Best to keep it that way.
