But the only thing worse than being a taxpayer forced to bail out reckless banks is losing your job because it's been outsourced or offshored. As Richard McCormack pointed out in the American Prospect, in the beginning of this century American companies stopped making the products Americans continued to buy, from clothing to computers. Manufacturers never emerged from the 2001 recession, which coincided with China's entry into the World Trade Organization. Between 2001 and 2009 the U.S. lost 42,400 factories and manufacturing employment dropped to 11.7 million, a loss of 32 percent of all manufacturing jobs. The last time fewer than 12 million people worked in the manufacturing sector was in 1941.

Clinton had the gall to accuse those who opposed China's entry into the WTO of "aligning themselves with the Chinese army and hard-liners in Beijing who do not want accession for China." Clinton claimed that the agreement that he championed "creates a win-win result for both countries," arguing that exports to China "now support hundreds of thousands of American jobs" and "these figures can grow substantially." (Clinton's press person at the Clinton Global Initiative did not respond to my requests for feedback.)

The facts contradict these assertions. Imports of computers and electronic parts accounted for almost half of the $178 billion increase in the U.S. trade deficit with China between 2001 and 2007 and the loss of 2.3 million jobs, according to the Economic Policy Institute.

Bill Clinton, the country's most ardent booster of opening trade with China, looks especially imprudent 10 years later. During a press conference on March 29, 2000, Clinton said that granting China permanent normal trade relations (PNTR), which allowed China to gain entry into the WTO, would be a great deal for America. "We do nothing," Clinton said. "They have to lower tariffs. They open up telecommunications for investment. They allow us to sell cars made in America in China at much lower tariffs. They allow us to put our own distributorships there. They allow us to put our own parts there. We don't have to transfer technology or do joint manufacturing in China any more. This a hundred-to-nothing deal for America when it comes to the economic consequences."

It didn't quite work out that way. Since 2000, the trade deficit with China has surged by 173 percent, from $83 billion in 2000 to $227 billion in 2009. The United States has lost more than one-third of all its manufacturing jobs -- 5.6 million; U.S. wages have declined; the country has suffered a financial meltdown; it has spent $14 trillion on economic stimulus, only to experience the highest unemployment rates in generations and annual federal budget deficits of more than $1 trillion. These trends are not "likely to end," says Lighthizer.

China's Entry Into The WTO 10 Years Later Is Not What President Clinton Promised

Those darn Republicans have made it impossible for the President to do his job. In the process they are hurting America and themselves.
When Republicans made it impossible for the president to run the government, he found ways around their obstruction. And that made them really, mad.

Barack Obama has made clear that he won't just be concentrating on foreign policy. He'll be doing whatever he can to achieve domestic goals as well, even if Republicans have made legislating impossible.

Faced with an opposition of unusual orneriness—perhaps more so than any in American history—Barack Obama has made clear that he won't just be concentrating on foreign policy. He'll be doing whatever he can to achieve domestic goals as well, even if Republicans have made legislating impossible. The conflict over the actions he has taken so far and the ones he'll be taking in the future are likely to define the last two and a half years of his presidency.

What have the Republicans done for America in the last 14 years? No wonder they aren't in the White House.

This is the closest you've come t reality in a long time by inferring Oblamo's lack of success.

You need look no further than Oblamo himself. Leaders don't blame, deflect and whine. Leaders make their point by providing a vision, gaining consensus and implementing a plan. Oblamo's vision is plain and clear. His ability to gain consensus and implementation is clearly lacking.

All POTUS have this challenge. Oblamo has failed in almost every facet except fund raising.

And if you're still blaming the Republican's, Oblamo is not the answer.

Worst POTUS since WWII according to the Quinnipiac pole released 7/2/2014!!!! America speaks loudly.

BTW, in that same poll Ronald Reagan was rated the best POTUS.

Reagan defeated the USSR, inflation, got America back to work, and initiated a time in American history where it stood tall.

Left a mess by Carter, Reagan got things in order in two years.

His campaign phrase in 1980: "Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?" was all he need ask and America spoke, electing him in a landslide over Mondale.

Reagan had a democratic congress each year he was POTUS but Reagan led not only the nation, but the govt too. No excuses!

Oblamo would be smart to learn from Reagan, a true leader of this great country.

Did You know?

Republicans are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights.

Republicans favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better.

There you have it folks, this is the way Republicans think.

What a shame too!

No ideas, NOTHING! Nothing in over 14 years. Why would anyone vote for a Republican? All they can do is scoff at the Democrats, that is the only thing they can do.

That's great news Blow, I know I bust your chops on the economy, but really it is welcome news. But lets wait and see if the uptick was caused by global climate change or just good weather.

However, by his own admission, the economy has nothing to do with him.

When scandal after scandal abounded i.e.; fast and furious, the Solyndra scandal, spying on the press scandal, "if you like your health insurance you can keep it..." lie, NSA spying on Americans scandal, IRS scandal, trading top Gotmo terrorists for Bergdahl scandal, the VA scandal, the Benghazi scandal, using drones to kill Americans abroad without a trial, the southern border invasion, ten violations of constitutional over-reach, ad nauseam,- and we were told time after time, over and over, the President either didn't know about the scandal, or it was Bush's' fault.

If he's not responsible for the bad news, how can he be responsible for the good news?

Now for the News!

288,000 Jobs added, isn't that really great news for America. Slowly America is coming back.

Obama gave the order to capture or kill the # 1 fugitive in America Osama bin Laden.

Now if that was George W. Bush and the Republicans, they would be bragging about his DECISION to get Osama, and the risk the President took to give such an order.

If it had been George W. Bush that ended the war in Iraq, and let's pretend for a moment Bill Clinton gave the order to invade Iraq. The Republican Consevative G.W. Bush would be greater than their hero Ronald Reagan, greater than Bill Clinton.

The Republican's need something, anything, they haven't done anything in the past 14 years.

John Boehner was asked what law, he could would use to sue Obama, he could not come with an answer.

Unemployment DROPPED again.

6.1%

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 129.47 points, or 0.8%, to a record 16956.07

Obama is doing a great, and it is killing every Republican in America. Let's cut to the chase, if Obama were White --- and a Republican. The Republicans would be on cloud # nine. But he is Black in their mind, and like the KKK, they don't have any use for Black people.

I am glad I brought the Republican's on Topix down to earth with some news.

OH! Yea, America lost the Iraq war under George W. Bush and the leadership of Dick Cheney.

Dick made $millions, and Halliburton made $billlions, that is Republican politics for you.

Obama: Ideological Congress Can’t Function

President Barack Obama asserted on Wednesday that he is using executive orders and taking administrative actions because Congress is unable to carry out the "basic functions" of governing.

In an interview with the “Marketplace” radio show, Obama said Americans are wrong to hold a "plague on both your houses" view of Washington because the gridlock is a solely the result of an "ideologically driven" Republican majority in the House. He predicted the GOP eventually will "move back to the center, mainly because if they don't, they'll never win the presidency again.”

Wrong again. What a surprise! Now, remind me about Bill Clinton and his love affair with China, riding on the coattails of the Republicans. You really need to grow up.

Yeah, baby! PROGRESS! Oh, wait...

"In the household survey, full-time jobs fell by 523,000, while part-time jobs rose by 799,000. The U6 unemployment rate, which includes part-time workers who want better full-time jobs or folks who have given up, dropped only slightly to 12.1 percent. That's still a historically high rate. And the labor-force participation rate was unchanged at 62.8 percent, a 30-year low."

"This has always been a rather lopsided economic expansion. For example, auto sales surged to 16.9 million in June, a very good number. And the energy sector has been strong for many years. But consumer spending actually fell in April and May. And long-term business investment — a huge job creator — remains in the doldrums."
