I go off on a customer service type about once a year. I didn't go off on anybody today, I just heckled.

I was at Kroger this afternoon and the lines were all backed up. I had too many coupons for the self-service lanes, and the express lane was empty so I switched lines and went there.

This young cashier says to me, "Just for future reference sir, this is an express lane."

I said, "I know that but your lines are moving slow and this line was empty."

She said, "Well, you didn't have to say that sir. That's rude." (It was nothing of the sort.)

So I said, "Well, I think it's rude when your lines move too slow."

She got in a huff and called her head cashier to take over pointing at me. She started stomping off to the break room I guess. As she was stomping off I started heckling her, in a loud voice. I said, "What a cry baby!" a couple of times, followed by, "Why don't you grow up, would ya?"

The idiot behind me said something to me about how he doesn't like this stuff and just wants to get out of there. So that set me off even more and I called the manager over and told him what happened. I pointed at the idiot behind me again and how he was blaming me for what happened. The manager apologized and I said, you don't have to say you're sorry just tell your people to be nicer to their customers. It's not the end of the world because someone went through the express lane with too many (but not an obscene amount) items.

Okay ... open for comments.

I don't like you, but I have to admit that I enjoyed reading this, and would have liked to watch it.

In Northeast Ohio, Kroger does not exist, but this situation is common at Walmarts, and eventually they gave up on express lanes.

I like your story from last year at the Whitehall Walmart better. It had crazy black people.

Wanna guess what ethnicity do you think the cashier was?

That's a common part of Walmart's nationwide, even the Wadsworth Walmart has a lot of them at the registers.

Employers don't train their people geared to customer service.
When I get a crabby cashier, I look right at her and ask,
HAVING A BAD DAY ARE YOU?.
That usually snaps them out of their mood. But I don't take any rudeness either...I have to make a remark as I walk out.
There is no reason to be rude and employers need to train their people and stress that the customer is always right.....and never argue with one.
I find that no one has speed in theses stores. They act like they're doing YOU a favor.
The only fast cashiers I know work at Heinen's! Wonderful polite and helpful people!

I had a feeling when she said "rude." That's a codeword.

I wish I would have seen it too. One of my daughters is paying part of her college tuition by cashiering at a local grocer.

If I had witnessed a grown man acting like a little punk in a checkout line, I would have left my cart right there, waited for you in the parking lot, and made sure that the roofing nails I keep in the glove box for just such special occasions got put to good use as soon as you closed the driver's door.

I'd get great pleasure asking you if you needed help with fixing two flat tires, especially when you said "sure thing", and I told you "Sorry, I'm kind of in a hurry. I'm here to pick up my daughter. Some assshole fcked with her on her first day of work here, and she's really upset."

Walmart shoppers deserve every bit of abuse they get.

Couldn't turn the other cheek, christian? Be sure to sing extra loud in church tomorrow. It's what your god wants.

Naturally you lay the blame on the wrong party. The teach that a law school I imagine...
And an officer of the court admitting to the possession of criminal tools as a matter of course...
You're a real peach, douche.

So in other words you're a typical limp wristed leftist male. You just sit politely by and take crap as it's dished out at you? No wonder you couldn't make it in private practice, though my behavior has more to do with being a Mediterranean than it does being a lawyer. We don't take crap from chicks with a bad attitude.

More likely Bobby, you've got some deep seeded anger issues left over from your Mommy's authoritarian "love" that causes you to snap at people you perceive to be weak.

You should get some help for that. Some day, someone will react to your childish behavior in a manner you won't be expecting.

My practice has been rolling for ten years Bobby.

Now lets see Paco.

Bobby is a full grown man at the grocery store, who admits purposefully instigating an argument over a petty issue, when he could just as easily paid his bill and left.

People like that eventually get what they deserve, Paco. If I were to just happen to drop a couple of nails and poor Bobby got a couple of flats, I would call that serendipitous early "Karma".
