The focus of pedophilia is sexual activity with a child. Many courts interpret this reference to age to mean children under the age of 18. Most mental health professionals, however, confine the definition of pedophilia to sexual activity with prepubescent children, who are generally age 13 or younger. The term ephebophilia , derived from the Greek word for "youth," is sometimes used to describe sexual interest in young people in the first stages of puberty.

The sexual behaviors involved in pedophilia cover a range of activities and may or may not involve the use of force. Some pedophiles limit their behaviors to exposing themselves or masturbating in front of the child, or fondling or undressing the child, but without genital contact. Others, however, compel the child to participate in oral sex or full genital intercourse.

The most common overt aspect of pedophilia is an intense interest in children. There is no typical pedophile. Pedophiles may be young or old, male or female, although the great majority are males. Unfortunately, some pedophiles are professionals who are entrusted with educating or maintaining the health and well-being of young persons, while others are entrusted with children to whom they are related by blood or marriage.

I'm a woman and I get uncomfortable looking at some of the little girls in bathing suits at my club. Honest to god it's not at all unusual to see pre-teens in revealing string bikinis. You feel like you have live kiddie porn right in front of you - really skeevy. Seems like A & F is just selling what parents are buying. Sick, but true.

Wouldn't something that is padded actually conceal more and better than just a thin piece of fabric?

A&F never ceases to amaze me. They're the retail version of Jerry Springer.

A&F leads the way in sexualizing our youth in this country, and parents are as much at fault for buying into the crap that A&F is peddling on our kids.

But it's not just A&F. Target is also selling the padded pushup bra swimsuits for 8 year olds. Think back to Halloween and the sexual costumes for little girls that have gotten worse and worse every year. It's everywhere.

I strongly feel that parents are to blame for not only allowing this filth to permeate our culture without protesting and vocalizing outrage, but also by purchasing and supporting its growth. It's sickening.

Totally disgusting! Are the CEO's of A&F pedophiles in search of future victims? They are even worse than Wal-mart featuring makeup for very young girls. Any parent succumbing to these marketing tactics may be placing their children in harm's way. Let a child enjoy their youth.

Abercrombie is just one of many companies using their product to sexualize children and preteens, specifically females. Even the TIDE commercial that has the father destroying his daughter's short, white skirt. Then there are Bratz dolls, Victoria's Secret PINK line, etc. It's everywhere. You just have to be a smart parent and not allow them to have certain things. I usually get the "But MOM, everyone else has it!"
Have you seen the prom dresses at Macy's? Oh goodness. Not on my daughter.

It is criminal to sexualize any child !!!! Who is the CEO of this company, a pervert ???? Do they think that marketing to 12 yr old girls is OK too ???? So many missing and exploited children in this country and they want to market more ways to make a little girl appealling to grown men, they should be jailed !!!

It's wonderful there are still mothers who really love and care about their children. I applaud you for your convictions. You are a rarity!

Wow. Where is this coming from and why would you think it is in any way appropriate or needed here? You're really creepy, Barney, and I can't help but question your interest in an article like this.

Thanks, groundhog. I'm sure there are other parents out there who are as equally disciplinary as my husband and I are, they just give in to the whining and crying of their teenage daughters. Not us! The training wheels stay on and the leash is still wrapped around our hands.

Enhance what? Seven year old girls are as flat as a board. There are probably some twelve year olds who would have something to "push up", but I think the fault lies not with a padded bikini top, but with Abercrombie for claiming that something for girls that young is "push up"--something associated with sexy lingerie. Had they just said "padded," there's less of a problem. But I'm not surprised they took the "sexy" angle. That's completely in line with their marketing strategies.

There's nothing that wrong with bikinis for little girls--I had one when I was five nearly 40 years ago (although it's the last one I ever wore). The problem is when they are designed to be "sexy."
