Farming hogs involves not only people like me but my friends who work at hog slaughter facilities and small butcher shops and stores. The State of Ohio is a BIG consumer as the prison system is the biggest agency, so if demand goes down it affects the hog prices I can get for my hogs."The prison system first took pork off the menu in 2009 after, in a money-saving attempt, it closed the pig farm and processing facility it operated to provide meat for inmates.
Last year, after lobbying by pork producers, the system added pork rib patties back to the menu twice a month."
So they pull pork off the menu due to costs. Put it back on due to pig farmers wanting state bucks. And then when someone threatens a lawsuit, rather than spending taxpayer dollars defending in court a meal they serve 2 times a month, they re-pull (Mmmm re-pulled pork) it off the menu.
So why is this a problem?
I pay taxes and I don't expect that the State of Ohio will stab me, my kids and family in the back by playing games with the pork market. This hurts my industry, and all this is done to appease Muslims who often hate America and cause problems in the prisons by demanding righs and privelages.
