You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.

If not, and you actually have children, then you don't value their cultural and economic future.
If you don't yet have children, please don't...until you mature.
As Churchill said:
"If you're not a liberal at 20 you have no heart; if you're not a conservative at 40 you have no brain."
Recall that in Churchill's day the conservatives were folks like Eisenhower.

US House, 30 governorships and 49% of the American public...that's us. You have no mandate and we control all federal spending. We also killed a Communist UN treaty in the Senate this afternoon.
Chew on that.

The only bad thing is Boehner is probably going to cave on tax hikes for the wealthy, which will do nothing for the economy but will get Obama's foot in the door for the real money... tax hikes on the middle class. And the kicker: They'll be able to blame it on the Republican cave.

In a press release after the vote, Foreign Relations Committee Chairperson John Kerry stated,

“This is one of the saddest days I’ve seen in almost 28 years in the Senate and it needs to be a wakeup call about a broken institution that's letting down the American people. We need to fix this place because what happens and doesn’t happen here affects millions of lives. Today the dysfunction hurt veterans and the disabled and that’s unacceptable. This treaty was supported by every veterans group in America and Bob Dole made an inspiring and courageous personal journey back to the Senate to fight for it. It had bipartisan support, and it had the facts on its side, and yet for one ugly vote, none of that seemed to matter. We won’t give up on this and the Disabilities Treaty will pass because it’s the right thing to do, but today I understand better than ever before why Americans have such disdain for Congress and just how much must happen to fix the Senate so we can act on the real interests of our country."

People with disabilities already have rights under US law. This was about sovereignty, plain and simple.

No, Tony, this had nothing to do with sovereignty. It was also not about home-schooling (although I understand that a lot of home-schoolers were convinced that it was).

The opposition was led by that sam 25-50% of the Republican Party that believes such things as the President is a Muslim, that the UN has the ability to overturn the Second Amendment to the Constitution, that secession from the country is a rational response to a lost election and that "I am not a witch" is a a sound recommendation for candidacy.

The reality is that somewhere along the lines of 50-75% of the Republican Party are NOT such idiots, think things through carefully and have a sound basis for their political beliefs. However, the are running in terror from primary threats by the uncontrollable fringe.

And the result is that we cannot get sufficient agreement in Congress to move forward with a basic statement of fundamental rights of people with disabilities that should provide guidance to the policies of sovereign countries around the world.

Kerry is right. A sad, sad day indeed.

Americans with disabilities (including Veterans) have been known to travel outside our country.

I guess you think they should just leave their rights at home when they do.

No, they should stay away from places where they know their rights won't be honored, and keep the Consulate on speed-dial.

Who is Sending Us Over Fiscal Cliff?

George W. Bush

Is there anyone on earth more responsible for racking up our debt than George W. Bush. He campaigned in 2000 promising to cut taxes in order to avoid paying down the national debt. And when the recession of 2001 arrived, he said tax cuts would revive the economy. And when the economy didn’t revive, he cut taxes some more. Tax cuts for all occasions And it was all guilt-free.

Dick Cheney

While Bush was busy cutting taxes, Cheney was busy planning the war on terror. For the first time in our history, we sent our military into battle without raising taxes at home to help pay for it. It added trillions to the debt.

This is Obama's baby. He's entering his second term and you people refuse to have him take responsibility for the $6 trillion HE has added to the debt, the utterly failed "stimulus" and Obamacare's costs.
It's time for the two sides in this nation to consider divorce.

How many trillions will it cost America to fix the mess George W. Bush left behind? 6 trillion, or will it be closer to 10 trillion or more. The country was in meltdown, when Bush left office. You don't leave the country in shambles, and it doesn't cost a dime to fix…

Which party controlled the House and Senate during the final two years of Bush's presidency? This nation was under control until January 3, 2007. Then you anti-American, economically illiterate, childishly envious hatemongers threw us in the pit.

What everyone should be asking themselves? When is John Boehner going to step down, let someone lead the House?

He is nothing but a total drag on America, from going forward.
