If Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan get elected, it will NOT be safe to open the door of your own home, let alone step outside.

And, yes you may be able to protcet yourself, but you can't be two places at once, which means you can't protect your family.

Unless of course, you are a millionaire and live in a closed, gated community with guards on duty 24/7.

If that is the Model Country that you desire, buy a bulletproof car and move to Mexico. You can live in your guarded gated community and Lord it over the Peons.
You don't have to create that kind of Society here.

I really have no problem with the stay at home spouse receiving benefits.
My dad was self-employed, paid in the maximum FICA every year and died at age 56. Tragic. Now my mother raised the four of us, helped him with his 'office paperwork', stayed on the farm and dealt with the horse vans, vets, farriers, farm helpers; and she also traveled with him when she could, entertained his clients to the point of them staying with us for a week at a time....so I think for her to collect his SS benefits 9 years after his death is totally fitting. She had no other income.
To do otherwise would be a 'war on women', wouldn't it?(sarcasm intended)
Now, I have a big problem with the children and step-children, under age 18, collecting when one or the other parent dies.
Cases in point: My sister was murdered in a home invasion at age 32. The worse thing I have ever gone through. Her husband is an architect with his own firm. Economy was good. She was a college prof and had only worked 27 months. Her husband received SS benefits for the two children until they were age 18. He did not need it. It was not put aside for their college, they worked their way through 7 years of college, both of them, and he remarried within a year to a woman with three children. Now I LOVE all of them. But that should have been based need.
My housekeeper: Her husband basically committed 'suicide by cop.' He was about 30. On the front lawn, waving a gun around and threatening to kill her and the children. So the police shot him. She collected SS benefits not only for his childen, but her four children, his step children.
My cousin's wife died from breast cancer at age 45. I was the only one with her when she passed. He collected $1600. a month for the two teenage sons, they didn't need it, so they bought a beach house. And again, I love them.
One of my father's clients got married at age 60 and immediately he and his 40 year old wife, whom I adore, had a baby. Their 'century baby' they called her. When he reached age 65, he began receiving a check for Pamela because she was 4 years old and he was over 65. He lived on Miami Beach next to Jackie Gleason and was quite wealthy. I am still very much in touch with his widow and the daughter, now 40.
These SS benefits should not be automatic, but based on need.
And don't even get me started on SS Disability. Needs to be a BIG investigation there.
But SS for true retired workers? No politician will ever touch it.
SS retirement benefits should be automatic to anyone who paid into the system at retirement. That's the program. As for surviving spouse benefits, I merely pointed out the rules, didn't say whether I was for or against. I've been divorced now almost 9 years, when I retire I still get benefits off him although I have worked my entire adult life as well. We were married nearly 25 years, the rules state 10 years marriage I believe in order to claim the higher benefit.

I do think the system needs to be rehauled. Moneys shouldn't be put in the general treasury but set aside an invested like any other retirement fund--pension, 401K, etc.

The system had been extended too far in some ways, and you can't tell me they weren't aware that a large group of baby boomers would be retiring and calling to collect some 30 years ago when they were in the workforce is all I'm saying.

But all the examples you provided were indeed playing by the rules. Rules that perhaps need to be re-worked in some ways.

SS Disability is fairly difficult to get, it's not automatic. Generally requires that you apply twice, usually first application is automatically denied. The problem I see with it is that you are disabled permanently per SS if you claim it, meaning you can't for example claim it temporarily while you rehabilitate and re-train for another job, say you lose a leg as a construction worker and then decide to become an accountant.

what do you possess?

at this point I have seen you lack intelligence, so what do you bring to the table?

when someone tells me they will be knocking on my door demanding I give them food and will be packing heat....I say don't miss because I won't.

and you post your kindergarden rant above.

Please line up single file so ammo can be conserved. At 10 feet, 5 or 6 of you can be turned into fertilizer with one bullet.

Actually, mine has rebounded quite nicely since.

There isn't anything 100% guaranteed in this world, you do realize this?

How much of the money you put into SS will be put back into your pocket? I haven't made that calculation or looked into it, should do that some day. But I'm willing to bet that not all will be returned directly to you that you put into it. And the rate of return that can be had via a 401K or investment account is not the same.

If no SS tax, I' probably be able to invest the entire amount that I'm paying out now. Why? It's hidden from me, I wouldn't miss it in my budget. I'd just re-direct those funds. And you?

I suggest that you re-check your sources. Catholicsunited.org is a progressive group, headed by James Salt, a self-proclaimed progressive. From their website:

Staff
James Salt - Executive Director
James has extensive experience working with national progressive Catholic peace and justice organizations as well as political campaigns involving Catholic strategy. He has worked for Pax Christi USA as a leader Pax Christi's Young Adult Forum, NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, and was part of the launch team of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. Most recently, he held an organizing position Maryland Citizens Against State Executions, and oversaw the Kansas Democratic Party's faith outreach efforts, including messaging work for Governor Sebelius and development of faith-based messaging resources. James lives in Washington, DC.

If you note, he's worked for Kathleen Sebelius, who is pro-abortion. See http://www.lifenews.com/2012/09/12/sebelius-b...

So, rhetorical question: does anyone truly vote based on a single issue?

No, but he did say render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's.

So legally implemented taxes are 'Caesar's' and Jesus' instruction to you was to pay it without question.
