Toshiba Satellites are rated low with a very poor track record. Of course that's because Satellites are Toshiba's low-end budget models.
My experience so far has been excellent. If it lasts three years, it's a bargain.

Technic's turntables were top notch, right along with Realistic. Them two were Radio Shacks big sellers for DJ equipment. It's unreal on the equipment i use today, compared to the 80s stuff, but damn, the old school shit was built to last....
Yeah, I just read up on Motorola owning Quasar.
Interesting. I had a fair bit of Technics stereo equipment 30 years ago. Never knew it was Motorola.

See what I mean? You can't stand anyone who dares to differ with your opinion. You are a mere insect among giants.

Technics was marketed by Panasonic not Motorola.

No-no-no!- Technics was always Panasonic. Quasar was Motorola and Panasonic bought them out.

Looks like you're the one who has an issue with another opinion, kid. I was merely relating my experience, not saying that you were necessarily wrong.
I'm also obviously living rent free inside your "giant" empty skull.

I've had excellent experience with mine. Bought in November 2010 and not a lick of a problem. For home use, no need to buy a higher end.

My brother has a Toshiba and he was bytching about it. But then again, he's the type who always switches cable companies and phone providers. All I know is that I am happy with my many times dropped HP, even though I had to replace the keyboard and the hinges that hold the screen to the base.

It's not pretty because there was no way to get to the hinges without breaking the bezel, but it still works after 3 1/2 years.

Go buy a ruggedized PC? We used to buy a lot of Panasonic Toughbooks for outdoor/surveyor/engineer use LOL.(EXPENSIVE! But hey, they survived engineers and surveyors dropping them or driving over them.../sigh.)

However....I don't think we'll see a lot more improvements in laptops. Probably they'll get them a wee bit more thinner, a wee bit more lighter. Can't do much more to them before it becomes a tablet, and those are already on the market. But most brands these days are pretty reliable and durable/dependable. And at the price range they are now, say between $300 for low end and $700-$900 for higher end (bigger screen, faster CPU, more memory), if it lasts 3-4 years, you're good. The competition is too tight now for the quality to be too poor between the brands right now.

The big thing to me has always been how fast the unit moves and how the keyboard feels. Toshiba, HP and IBM have always been excellent in that regard. HP incorporated Compaq designs into their laptops when they bought them out, and Toshiba and IBM were always great. Dell, I never cared for because the ones I've used (last one 5 years ago) always seemed clunkier than the name brands.

I was trying out an Acer at Staples the other day. That thing was slow. Never will buy an Acer again.

Latitudes clunky? Nope.

Worse laptop I ever had: IBM Stinkpad. But that was back about 1998. Unreliable from the get-go, out of the box.

Demo computers are probably not optimized. Who knows how much porn the sales crew was watching on it without a virus checker installed....
