Best buy sucks. Something about them and Kohls that piss me off in less than thirty seconds or thirty feet inside the door. |
|
$2,600(my MBP '08) I agree with the BestBuy issue you run into there. I personally like MicroCenter. I've had some good help from them, plus they seem to be a little more knowing and caring about your questions. Let alone cheaper. |

Testimonial #1: Bill (site co-founder)
Here is my story, and why I started this site. http://goo.gl/6r5sW ========= I told the kid working behind the counter what had happened with my phone, and since I had been lied to when sold the plan, I wanted my money back. He said that all he could do was pro-rate the plan for the last six months worth of coverage, since it was insured during that time. I told him that was not acceptable, but after he went and talked to his supervisor, nothing changed. Then I conceded, and took the $51.66 they gave me of my original $59.99 purchase ad went home. This is when I started writing letters. The only one I ever got a response from was the one I sent to the Better Business Bureau, and even that took about 3 months to get. What they sent me was a form letter apologizing for pressuring me into buying the insurance policy. This really pissed me off since that wasn’t what I was complaining about. My complaint was that I was lied to. I responded to their letter expressing these feelings, and they wrote back basically saying ‘were sorry, but were not going to do anything about it.’ I then wrote them a much more colorful letter expressing my views of their company, and never heard back from that one. Still waiting. Since then, I’ve been doing what I can to screw over their company, and you can read all about what I've been doing, and how to do it yourself in the "How to Screw them" section of this site. |

Testimonial #70: Former employee tells a few "crapped on" stories.
Hello, Dear I Hate Best Buy, Great site. Way to stand up to being crapped on! I was employed by BB for 2 years. I knew it was crap all along, but did my best to put up with it because a paycheck is a good thing.(albeit small...) I worked as a customer service rep and, when my conscience got the best of me, requested to be moved to cashier. I will, in future, tell you the sordid and ILLIGAL way in which I was shafted,( I just won in appeals, but I would feel better if their appellate rights run out before I post all that). In the meantime, here are some true stories from a somewhat RARE intelligent BestBuy employee. 1. In the state where i worked for BB, the law dictates that if an individual is required to wear a specific article of clothing or uniform (in this case, the embroidered blue BestBuy shirt) that the employer MUST provide it FREE OF CHARGE. Towards the end of my empoyment there, 45 newbies were hired. ALL were FORCED to shell out $45 bucks a pop, or decline employment. The average 19 year old single mom dosn't know this to be law, but you can bet your butt spineless jerks in human resources do!! 2. After suffering from an illness, i was sent home by my boss (operations manager) against my will ( she claimed that if I was to pass out, they could get sued, blah blah blah...) and then was informed that if i was intending on returning to work, i would need to submit to a medical exam at MY OWN EXPENSE!! Illegal in the following ways: a. In my state, an employer CANNOT force an employee to submit toANY FORM of physical exam if they were SENT HOME AGAINST THEIR WILL. b. In my state, any and all physical exams, medical visits, etc. required to gain or continue employment MUST BE PAID FOR BY THE EMPLOYER!! I took the day, went home any called the labor board to cover my butt. I then proceeded to the most expensive medical clinic in town and requested what my employer wanted, and that they be billed. When the officeworkers called them to verify payment, they again insisted thet payment was my responsibility. Until I told them everything the labor board had said. They then denied ever having sent me. All of this on speakerphone, to an entire clinic, much to the amusement of everyone there. 3. Customers were denied the right to purchase items unless a service plan (or "cheese") was puchased with it. Either "there is a limit on how many of there you can buy", or "we are out of stock", or my personal favorite "Can you find a way to make this credit card not go through?" (to which my answer was always NO there most certainly is NOT) This occoured on a fairly regular basis. 4. If an employee made what was deemed as "too much money" for their job, management would try to shake them down by making vast amounts of expensive merchandise "disappear", claim that they had "proof" that the employee was guilty of "grand theft", and then claim that if the employee submitted a resignation, no charges would be filed against them. When they tried this with me, I did't fall for the BS, and requested the police be called. They weren't but the threats ensued. I arrived early for my next day's shift, and when asked about the situation again, I insisted that the police be called (somehow, even though the supposed event occoured behind a cash register, no security camera angles caught it. Apparently, instead of angling cameras towards any registers, they were facing the exit door, as well as random walls throughout the building. hmmmmm....) My employer caught on that I wasn't gonna fall for this, and quickly tore up any paperwork having to do with the supposed mishap. These are all just the tip of the iceberg, and more true stories from a worker of CampConcentration will follow in due time. I often read through your site for moral support, and it is much appreciated. Thanks again for a great site!! FormerEmployee |

I wouldn't be so quick to smackdown Best Buy based on internet reviews. Yelp and a few other sites have the tendency of sheep following the loudest complainer and the problem could be just local, not the entire chain or brand.
The only reason I stated I didn't like their customer service is an old one. About 12-13 years ago, we bought a new TV from BB. It didn't work right after about 4-5 months, it would suddenly just turn off. This was before the new panel TVs, a tube TV. We had to took it to the Best Buy we purchased from, they promised to have it back in 5-7 days. Well day 9 arrived, they never called. We called, they profusely apologized and said 2-3 more days. This pattern kept happening, they ended up "fixing" the TV for about a month. Not a huge problem other than it was the main TV for the family--kids watched it in the family room, the large TV for movies, etc. We had to move a smaller TV into the family room for the kids for movie watching, friend entertainment, etc. Picked up the TV after about a month, re-installed, and a few weeks later the SAME problem occured. Repeated the cycle. I don't know if the problem were due to the specific brand OR Best Buy's customer service. Finally had the problem resolved after about 3-4 months of this nonsense (drop off, nag them to find out when it was ready for pick up, realize the problem wasn't resolved). BUT Best Buy does have an excellent sales staff (I do like their approach--they were very helpful when buying the laptop, provided lots of information to me). They have an excellent selection. And when it came time to prove they could deliver the PC on time (I used the Lancaster store for this purchase), they delivered--told me they'd have it configured, all OS/software/anti-virus installed within 24 hours, they did. I haven't really had reason to use Best Buy's customer service for this laptop--really, really a reliable machine. |
Glad to see you back. The Tv wasn't a JVC by chance? |

Thanks, I like to disappear from time to time. Some folks here are just plain stupid or nut trolls who wear asshats.(Regulars not!) No, it was a Sony. POS. But it was an older tube set bought I think in 1999 or 2000. Been trashed a long time ago. |
I had three JVC tv with that problem. I ended up opening the cases and putting a fan in them. |
|
I always liked Panasonic branded stuff. They were like Hondas. Durable, great quality and with stuff like telephones and portable radios, they sounded great. Plus they were always cheaper than Sony's. I still have an old tube 32" Quasar (Panasonic's off brand) I have in my office. I bought it when Incredible Universe went out of business for something like $175 and got Panasonic to fix it under warranty. I haven't tried any of their HDTV's though. I liked the picture too much on my Samsung. Far better than the picture on my brother's Panasonic. |

Judged: 1 I have a JVC 32" CRT type that is at least 15 years old and never a minute's trouble with it. Now watch it crap out since I bragged about it. |
|
Judged: 1 I bragged to someone the other day about how they were good luck for me because they were chastising me for not being able to text. I found the Google Nexus 4 in the other thread because of them. Their phone crapped out the next day. |

Judged: 2 Quasar was an excellent product. Liked to watch it while eating Quisp. |
Quasar was generic, wasn't it? I remember having a VHS player(Quasar), that chewed home recorded movies up, but played only genuine copies. They were also big in home appliances too, weren't they? Anyhow, I think that was you, asking about what T.V. to get, About a year ago?? I have the same brand(Samsung 51''), which has been a great set..IMO. |
|
Quasar was actually Motorola, then Panasonic bought them out in the 1970's. During most of the 70's, 80's and 90's, their high end stuff was labeled Technics, their "Buick" brand was Panasonic and Quasar was their low end brand. There was no difference between my TV and the Panasonic they were selling at the time except it didn't have some features. Otherwise, it looked and sounded the same. |
|
Could be, I always like to get opinions from people. I actually copied off my brother and got the same set he had, except a newer model. Looks exactly the same, except his was the old model and weighed a ton. Mine was also cheaper. My Sammy is 58" ... watching football on it is great. It was worth every penny. |
