The teacher's union is going to face some pretty stiff opposition on this one. Opposition leaders will probably protest by pitching tents outside the union hall. They'll need to sit down and erect a bonafide plan that will benefit both parties. It's going to be hard, but anything worth doing usually is. They have to wack away at their differences and come to a mutual agreement. It'll be a real pain in the arse, but I for one, think they can do it.
Keep this up and you'll be beat!!

How is it 'taxpayer-funded'? Don't they have insurance? If they do, the school board has no business deciding which drugs are included. I bet their insurance covers Viagra

You've obviously never been to Hilliard or Dublin.

This is insane. BCPs are covered by almost every health insurance plan.

Teachers' union members must be prevented from reproducing by any means possible (well, discouraged from reproducing since you don't need to be- eh never mind you get the idea).

This isn't about teachers being over or underpaid, or about teachers having sex.... it is about sexual discrimination. How would women like it if their insurance cancelled coverage on birth control or hormone (menopausal) meds???

Erectile disfunction is Nature telling you that you are out of the game. Don't force it, guys! Or if you want to, pay for it!

It's taxpayer funded because the taxpayers pay for the health insurance, which then pays for the doctor's visit and the prescription. I say if they want Viagra, they should have to pay for it.

There is a big difference between Viagra and birth control pills - birth control pills save the insurance companies by preventing unplanned babies - Viagra, on the other hand,(no pun intended) does not serve any medically NECESSARY purpose.

Our health insurance quote just came back at a 35% increase (nice job with the new health care plan that really helped) for next year. So adjustments will be made to our plan too (deductibles, prescription co-pays, etc).
If the teachers want Viagra included, then do what you have to do - pay for it.
I completey agree.

I disagree. I don't see either side being able to rise to the occasion. Instead, the stalemate will likely limp along for years. I would tend to blame the impotent school board. They don't seem to be able to mount any serious opposition.

Horse $h!t....teachers are not "under paid". They work 3/4th of a normal work day for 2/3rd of the year. Adjust the average teacher salary as an hourly rate and they are paid the same as most comparable "professionals". In addition, teachers get additional time off for the things such as staying late for conferences. Do you know what most "professionals" get for staying late? ZIP. Not to mentioned great benefits and retirement after 30 years and nearly guaranteed employment for life. They can't have it both ways. You can't claim to be underpaid relative to the private sector, but them not want any of the risks associated with working in the private sector. Total freaking B.S. And in the interest of disclosure, both of my parents and all of my siblings are educators, so I know of what I speak.

Those of you who are always moaning about teachers' unions, because your right-wing churches have made teachers' unions (and education in general) their enemy, should realize that rich special interests are in control of this country (which is not in your best interest) and that unions are the only defense we have against rapacious corporations. You would be better off yourself if you would go join one....

Very true. Just look up Restless Leg Syndrome. Or as Kramer lamented in Seinfeld, "Jerry! I've got the jimmy legs!"
