Longaberger has $100 million in annual sales, according to the trade publication Direct Selling News, and fewer than 1,000 employees at last count.
In 2000, the company had $1 billion in sales and 8,000 employees.

Just like baseball cards...in the '90s, too many people with tons of disposable income saw them as "investments."
